I've had my XBOX 360 since January 3rd 2006.
It's now bit the dust. I'm damn hopeful that I don't want any DLC that's due, or Microsoft will be getting an earful.
Plus:
My XBOX360 is of course out of warranty. And I was not prepared to pay £80+ for a repair.
Thus I explained and bartered and got myself a free repair or replacement console for my "loyal gaming" to Microsoft.
Which was nice. But it sucks that the lovely RROD still happens to everyone.

Mine also bit the dust the other day. Thankfully I hear the turnaround time is pretty quick as most peoples warranty's have run out (1-2 weeks). I really need to get my hands on of those 360's with the "indestructible" chips.

Let's not turn this into a console war, kay guys? ;)
The 360 is a decent console, but anything made before this year is bound to die by either the RRoD or E74.
I've had three 360's--one of them died by the RRoD, then I decided to get an Elite, then that one's video card died. I've had a ~new elite since September and it hasn't died yet.
Hopefully, you can get enough money to buy a new Xbox 360 so you could keep playing.

The nice thing about those is that they're a lot quieter too. :) I recently bought one and I love it.

I've had 4 360's since I got mine =/ Mine broke on Christmas two years in a row (Luckily, this year my parents had extra money to buy an Arcade 360 bundle.)

Sorry to hear about your XBox. We got one for Christmas the year it came out ('05) and it died after about 9 months. The replacement we got red-ringed just this past November, but since it was out of warranty I decided to fix it myself. As long as you're computer-savvy and good at fixing things, it's actually not that bad. So far it's worked great *Knock on Wood*. Next thing is to fix whatever's causing all the disc-read errors (that gets old real quick). That and the CD-ROM drive sounds like a jet engine, so I might look at replacing that soon. I'd install some of our games on the hard drive, but we still have the dinky 20GB drive and it's almost full. I'm appalled that Microsoft would put out a system they know will eventually fail. It's a shame because, when it works, the 360's a great machine IMO.

The issue is, when they send you a replacement they send you a refurbished 360 that's about the same age as the one you had before. So if you have an older 360 that's more prone to getting RRODs, you'll just get another 360 that has a decent chance of RRODing. So the fact they have the replacement system is nice, but it ultimately doesn't help you very much.

I've had 3 elites RRoD on me. The only elite's now that have the jasper chip are the RE SE elites.

Yeah I decided to try and fix it since I figured I had nothing to lose with it being out of warranty. That and I really didn't feel like springing for a new XBox. Thankfully, it's worked fine since I did the fix; as long as it doesn't red-ring again (always a chance it will, but I hope it doesn't), for about $10 in materials and a couple hours of my time I feel like it was worth it. I kinda figured the replacement (which we still have) was a refurb. It actually lasted longer than I expected, to he honest.

It threads like these that make me think the Wii connect 24 is a good idea/bad idea.
The Wii stays on and keeps collecting heat 24/7 which is bad if you keep your wii in a poorly ventilated area. So I turned it off.

can a wii overheat? I think I heard that they run on like 18 watts per min and a 360 uses around 120

I love the Wii, and Miyamoto has never done me wrong.
I'll be getting it shipped off Thursday, and apparently there's a quick turnaround on them at the moment with getting them to you.
