Hey guys, I bought Rock Band about 2-3 months ago and my friends always complain about how my guitar doesn't pick up their strums. For a long time I just told them that they sucked, but then I decided to play guitar rather than drum.

I realized that my guitar (bought brand new) only works correctly while strumming up. When you strum down it only works about 40% of the time.

Now most of you are going to just say, why didn't you return it, why not just send it in blah blah. Well, stupid me I threw out the receipt. So I'm wondering, is it possible for me to open up the guitar, find where the wires aren't quite working correctly and fix them/solder them?

I'll gladly post pictures and such if needed.

Depends on the problem. If a piece of the hardware is misaligned or not screwed in tight enough then sure, you can open it up and fix it. There are some good guides on the web for fixing the mechanical problems with the inside of guitars.

Or you could have a problem like mine, where everything tests out fine but it still doesn't work. Mine is most likely a problem with the circuit board or the logic, which I'm still waiting to find out if it's replaceable or fixable or not.

Can you post some links to some of the guides that you've found online/

Is the guitar in question an RB1 or RB2 guitar controller?

There are two magnetic sensors for up and down strumming. My down strumming sensor had a bad solder joint and a cracked sensor. I swapped the up sensor to the down position and am now trying to find a new sensor to solder into the upstrum position. Now strumming down works great. The guitar is easy to take apart and the wires that need to be moved are easily unplugged from the circuit boards.

Guys...the RB1 guitars have been a big issue with alot of users, myself included (overdrive is a pain in the..... to activate) i suggest petitioning for a massive recall and repair.....

I've opened the guitar before, but I have no idea what I'm doing with the insides. Any way you can explain it better or with pictures? Thanks.

Having the same problem with an RB2 guitar though... i have ripped it ope a few times trying to figure out what it was. Originally thought it to be my strum bar but that proved to be wrong. About to open it again and look around again.

schleidd if you are still out there can you tell me how to unplug the sensors from the circuit board?
