Slayer by far. Show No Mercy, Haunting the Chapel, and Hell Awaits all dominate anything Anthrax and especially Pantera have done.Slayer's popular stuff if pretty decent too. I still like Anthrax though. With Pantera, only Cowboys as good. Power Metal was alright, I've heard it get good criticism, although I guess nothing from their glam era will please me.

i love all 3 but i voted for anthrax cause they usaully put out cds that i love from top to bottom.i have seen all 3 live as well and you cant go wrong with any of them but again i felt anthrax was the more fun balls out show especially the john bush era anthrax live. slayer was awesome live but the crowd was more of the show them them ,but pantera on a good night holy crap they could rip it up.

Have you guys heard Slayer's first three albums? Show No Mercy is one of my ten favorite (thrash) metal albums of all time. It sounds much different than their subsequent albums, possessing a strong Venom influence.
Black Magic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtmNOaG1KBA) - Slayer (Amazing riffage)
Crionics (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_svXiBgKnUw) - Slayer (I love when Tom wasn't afraid to hit the high notes)

Show No Mercy was when King could solo without it sounding like a sloppy mess of whammy. I voted Slayer based because of Show No Mercy and Hell Awaits.

To be honest I find the soloing on that album pretty weak, although the riffing more than makes up for it.

So that gives Linkin Park a lot of guts.
Not really, because Jay-Z doesn't count. Besides both Linkin Park and Jay-Z weren't exactly helping their respective genres.
Also; a thrash metal band collaborating with a hip-hop group is more gutsy then a rap-rock group collaborating with a hip-hop artist.

Coincidently the Dave Lombardo left right after Seasons. However I have to say that the album God Hates Us All being released on Sep 11th 2001 is some kind of ****ing irony.

I voted Slayer. I really like a lot of their stuff (nothing past Seasons In The Abyss, again). Anthrax is next. I don't like too much of their stuff, but I do love Spreading The Disease and respect their ventures into hardcore (with S.O.D.) and their collaboration with Public Enemy (which I do love). Pantera's last for me. I don't really like them. Used to love them, but in retrospect, their music's pretty boring. I still like a few tunes, though, if for nostalgia.

Pantera seem so over-rated to me. All my friends go on and on about how amazing they are, but I really just can't get into them. Anthrax are pretty good, but out of the choices I would definitely say that Slayer were the best.

Anthrax.
They did an excellent cover of Joe Jackson's (another one of my favorite artists) Got The Time; it takes a lot of gumption for a metal band to cover Joe and do it so convincingly. Plus, Scott Ian is one of my favorite rhythm guitarists.

i like a few anthrax songs, but i hate rap metal and so i hate their hip hop collaborations. slayer is good for downright aggression, but musically they dont sound very good to me, with the exception of lombardos drumming. i dont like panteras later stuff because anselmos voice just becomes unbearable but i love cowboys from hell and vulgar display of power, so i guess ill pick them here. metallica, megadeth, and testament are all better than these bands imo.

I probably shouldn't rub it in your face, but my aunt dated Joe for like a year. I met him when I was like 2. My mom is still a huge fan, and even has 2 copies of I'm the Man because the first CD wore out.

Coroner is pretty good. Ulysses Siren is technical thrash and also very good. I prefer the aggression though, most technical thrash albums (i.e Dark Angel's "Time Does Not Heal") feel like they're missing something. I do really love some of them though, such as Coroner, Ulysses Siren, and Sadus.

I don't see all the fuss about slayer, they just sound mediocre in my opinion, they sound like any generic thrash metal band out there today. The lyrics are awful, vocals are average, too shouty, guitar riffs are good but the solo's are forgettable.
On the other hand Pantera has great vocal work, (see cover of cat scratch fever and cemetary gates etc.) unique guitar solo's and memorable riffs (walk, cowboys from hell). I don't understand the hate towards them. IMO

Well I wouldn't say Phil has great vocal work. He can sound great when he tries, but he mostly does his growl thing. I will agree with the solos and while the riffs are memorable to me, it's kinda a big statement they're memorable period.
This comming from one of the bigger Pantera fans.
And it's fun to make fun of Kerry and Jeff for their crap solos, but they are awesome riffers. And Dave Lombardo a Bad Ass Mother Fu**er.

The reason so many revival thrash bands sounds like Slayer (see Evile, Demiricous, etc) is because they're inspired by Slayer. Slayer was more aggressive than anyone else at the time. Then, in '86, they started producing some of the cleanest sounding (yet still very aggressive) thrash albums of the time. Unlike the other major thrash bands who were putting out well-produced albums, they didn't have the "fluff." No melodic intros, acoustic passages, political and philosophical lyrics, or anything else. Just pure, mean, thrash.
While I agree that their solos aren't particularly great, their riffs are incredible. Easily among the best riffing in all of metal. Araya's vocals aren't monumental, but they fit the music perfectly, and are very appropriate for thrash. And the drumming is momentous.
As for lyrics, they're not poetry, but they're not supposed to be. It's ****ing thrash metal. If you want great lyrics, pick a new genre.

A few bands demoed before Haunted The Chapel that were much heavier if you want to count that, although it was some of the first heavy thrash. However, in the subsequent years (primarily 85 and 86) thrash was made that made Slayer look like Metallica.
But anyways, and the guy who found Slayer generic: you obviously aren't into (or have heard enough) thrash metal. Trust me, Slayer is only normal by thrash standards, Pantera and Anthrax (for the most part) just are not (good examples of) thrash metal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtRDX9gBeRc)

What? You're comparing songwriting to lyrical themes. Pantera had extremely mediocre songwriting in their groove days sans Cowboys From Hell.

Its very hard. First i narrow it down to Slayer and Anthrax. Dimebags skills dont meet half Scott Ian and Kerry Kings abilities as a musician. Plus Pantera is slightly overrated. Then i look at variety and selection of song.
Anthrax wins!

amazing so many people can think so little of Pantera.
Pantera > Slayer >>>>>>> Anthrax.
Anthrax gets alot of love for being one of the first thrashers.... but in retrospect, while they have a lot of albums out, none.. except maybe Among The Living... are Legendary. (IMO of course lol)
I lover me some slayer... but in the end a huge percentage of their songs sound the same.
you can take you charlie benante and dave lambardo... ill take vinnie paul 11 times outta 10. Best metal drummer ever.
and I agree with whoever said Pantera is more aggressive than Slayer. Speed + Loudness does not equal aggressive. Attitude is aggressive. Anselmo's vocal ability, both singing and growling... dimbag's masterful use of simple, yet legendary riffs and solowork... vinnie's fusion of metal and funk drumming... and Rex's solid basswork....
there simply isnt a better metal band period.
..... in my opinion of course haha

White Zombie is pretty different from Pantera, being industrial too. They'd be best against bands like Exhorder, Machine Head, and later (aka crappy) Sepultura.
