For those of you in the same situation as me (all I've ever learned was basic 4/4) how have you fared so far? Has anyone without real drum experience mastered the game on expert yet? For me, I can pretty much 95+ the songs on medium and can pass about 1/3 of the songs on hard.

thats right where i am too... i guess im using the wrong technique but i cant keep a steady beat and consistently hit the drums fast enough when there are long strings of fast notes. plus the foot/hand independence thing hasnt happened yet

I never played drums before but I played in bands my whole life. I also have always used my legs, steering wheel, silverware, tabletop, chopsticks and pretty much everything as drum pieces to the point of annoyance. Years ago I was having lunch with some friends and I started using the chopsticks as drum sticks on the table and someone from another table actually asked me to stop.

I started at easy, then medium, now I'm working my way to finish the solo career on Hard. I'm not having too many problems but I spend most of my time playing online, always on Hard. Even if I come to fail the song, it's much more fun. And I expect to move on to expert before Christmas.

I've never played drums in real life and I finished the game on Expert. Lots of songs gave me trouble. My dad plays drums so I guess I have some rhythm from him!

I never played any instrument before. I love playing the drums on the game more than
anything. I am almost done with medium on solo. :D

I have never played drums for real ever. I can keep a beat though. I have rhythm. Not saying anyone in here doesn't, but it helps immensely.

I have completed easy, medium, and have 1 f'ing song left on hard. Iron Maiden, go figure. I can do about 25% of the songs on expert and get 90% or higher.

I will say that if you have NEVER played drums, you need to start this game on easy. I feel they set up drums so that you can become really good by the time you get to hard.

I play drums online only. I never really became a "guitar hero", but I sure am a "drummer for my ROCK BAND". I actually played score duel on both medium and hard, and faced the same guy like 3 times in a row on medium, then on hard like twice.

I guess there are not a lot of drummers on here. Or there are, and feel they are not ready for the human compitition.

Either way

DRUMS FTW!!! :)

I guess I have a totally different opp on this topic than Spik. I say, if you are 100% brand new, start on Hard. Medium and Easy are a joke AND difficult to read. The notes are so close together, and the beats are sooooo standard that it's a waste of time. Most people on these forums say the same thing over and over "Destroyed Easy, whooped medium, now I'm on hard". It's quite rare to see someone on these forums post how they are stuck on Easy, or medium. I would try out hard, if it's too insane, mess around on Medium for a few, but you want to get used to reading notes, moving your body, and pedal quickly. Once again, I started on Expert, and I've never played in real life. I'm now ranked 50 overall on drums (with many songs I need to redo), and in the ranked #1 band for Carreer Score. I'm not bragging, I'm showing a system that potentially can do very well....

I'm on Hard and about to beat the single career. Some people have seen me talking about the streaks that I got on Gimme Shelter. I got a new one (on Hard)... 100%-ed the song. It ended up being a 1384 note streak. Got pictures too but they are cameraphone pics. Not on the computer right now. Anyway, like I said, I'm on Hard and I can keep a beat, and work the pedal very well by now. Also I'm getting pretty damn good at drum rolls.

I have never played drums before and when I got it I started on easy...said screw it.
Then I went to medium....screw it.
Then I went to hard...ok this is tough.
Back to medium to build up skill and beat the career.
Now I'm doing the hard career and am stuck on Reaper...damn you Grim!!

I've never played the drums before Rock Band and have went through the hard level fairly easy(except for two or three songs...RttH, Won't Get Fooled Again, and Tom Sawyer)..Those three kill me.

Anyway...I find the hard difficulty a lot of fun and have improved immensely since I started playing.

bought it on release day, tonight was the first time I could do all (heh, any) of the drums on medium, and I never failed out once (in 4+ hours of 4-player BWT!). Been playing real guitar for about 15 years but never did master the "pat your head while rubbing your stomach" thing (two arms + 1 (or 2) legs doing different things lol).

It's getting easier, just like I knew it would eventually (Medium and especially Hard on Guitar Hero games took me about a year). I'm really digging this game more and more.

There's nothing like getting 4 people playing though...

I've never played drums before. I started out on easy. Just under 2 weeks later, I completed every song on hard except run to the hills. It'll be awhile before I beat that one.

ya im still working on drums on easy, but then im not able to practice a real lot due to time limitations, noise factor, etc. but im working on it and slowly getting used to it. I think once im used to the alternating rhythms in some songs with kick pedal and all then ill have no problem moving up in difficulty.

I've only dabbled in Drummania before playing Rock Band, but that was years ago. And like I said, it was dabbling.

Ranked 17th on Career Score / 1st on Score Duel.

What it comes down to is that it's a video game, and if you know how to play video games, you'll adjust to the controller ;)

never played before, started on Hard.

Beat hard pretty easily...only song I failed was Run to the Hills (but mostly because that drumkit had a red pad that worked only 50% of the time...)

Started on expert, I'm through whatever set Paranoid is in (that song raped my leg)

But unfortunately i haven't played my drum solo career in 2-3 weeks because my disc is broken :(
