****THIS THREAD IS A MIRRORED THREAD FROM ******: http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=93602
If you're going to ask what's with the bands each day until Saturday: Gh5.guitarhero.com
Now then, this is it, official GH5 discussion thread, all discussion goes here, but before posting or asking questions, please read the full thread, especially this sentence:
WIKIPEDIA/GAMEFAQS IS NOT A GOOD SOURCE!!!
Basic info that is NOT About the setlist:
-Release date is officially September 1st 2009.
-You can play on any instrument you want.
-DLC Works with it, possible exporting
-Party Play: Drop in- drop out no fail, no score mode, choose difficulty and instrument on the fly (with the whole being able to play any instrument combination things)
-Band Star Power: Each member can use different star power, like RB.
-Rock Fest: New competitive modes, such as Momentum where you shift down a difficulty if you miss 3 notes in a row and move up if you get a streak of 20.
-Tweaked Band Revival System: It's similar to rock band, but has to do with unifying the band. More on this later.

Rumored: (MUST BE BACKED UP NOT JUST FROM WIKIPEDIA OR A SITE NOT THAT RELIABLE IN THE PAST)
http://www.bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified.nsf/e8ea0df3a881175480256d58003cb570/1c2166a38574ba26802575c9002de129?OpenDocument
Interestingly, the entry indicates that there are on-disc interviews with Shirley Manson and Matt Ballamy. Putting my speculation hat on for a moment, perhaps this means that both will appear as avatars in GH5?
-Jimmy - M.I.A. - From some roynet site which in the past with rock band and gaming in general has proven to be unreliable, and with only 15 Artists left to reveal, It looks like this is staying here rumored.
-Inside Out - Eve 6 - ^ Read above
-Ghost Town - Shiny Toy Guns - ^^ Read: Jimmy
-Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana ( http://community.guitarhero.com/forums/70915/forum_topics/1015954 ) Possible from chart, and we have nirvana, not quite rumored but...
-21st Century Schizoid Man - King Crimson (We know It's happening in one of these games, we just don't know which game)
Stuff to note about The Setlist that isn't songs:
-This game offers 85 Different Bands (No notice on whether some bands will have multiple songs or not)
-30 Of these bands will be COMPLETELY New to the rhythm game genre as a whole. (VERY Vague on what it means)
-25% Of the setlist is composed of songs from the last 18 months
-50% Of the setlist is composed of songs from the last Decade.

I agree with that thought, but at the same time, I'm very excited that these bands are starting to get on board with the whole music game bandwagon. And I have full faith that Harmonix is pulling for every big name they can, so it'll just be a matter of patience.
Iron Maiden is the perfect example!

Wow. The fact they actually have confirmed Bush, Screaming Trees, and Rammstein really caught my attention :o
GH5 is off to a solid start, I hate to admit, but knowing Harmonix, they drag people back with their DLC from these bands. Pull off your magic Harmonix.

This game is going to be beast! The included artists list is daunting to say the least. This is going to be hands down the best setlist a music game has ever had. I'm so worried about this. HRMX better announce RB3 soon, because with GH5 being (potentiallyt) this great, the rythm-game rivalry is swaying heavily in Activisions favor. Please...RB3 ASAP!!!

I hope to God that GH gets Radiohead and SLTS, as HMX doesn't seem able (are they even TRYING?) to get either.
HMX better have something EPIC coming, just to reduce how badly GH is going to murder them in the next couple of years.
WHERE ARE THE BIG BANDS, HMX? Sure, we have the Beatles, Maiden and Green Day, but those are second tier compared to everything GH is getting.
I almost feel sorry for HMX.

Going purely by the definition of "big band", RB has THE biggest band. The Beatles are the highest selling band worldwide.

That's cool, I guess. I'm not a huge fan, so I can't go into any kind of lengthy discussion about them, but I think while 21st Century Breakdown is one of their best as an album, it's singles aren't as strong as AI or Dookie, so it's not a huge loss for me.
And I don't even mean it in the "it's a rock opera so the songs are meant to go together" way. Just the album is more consistent and flows better than most of their others, but it doesn't have a Basket Case or Boulevard of Broken Dreams (big singles).
I've only heard it once though. If we were getting a Green Day album, I would probably want 21CB, for the reasons above.

i have a feeling the rush song will be tom sawyer and the nirvana song may be in bloom. but i dont want them cuz i has them in rb
*sigh* You are probably right since GH does have a knack for using songs already on RB. I just hope the Screaming Trees song is not "Nearly Lost You," Duran Duran's not any of the three on RB, or Bush's not "The Chemicals Between Us," - my least favorite Bush song.

Screaming Trees have plenty of awesome songs, but Nearly Lost You is really the only known one.
I've said it before, but I really have to express my surprise at Elliot Smith. Jeff Beck also surprised me.

Based on the phrasing, that is what it appears to be. Sunny Day Real Estate would be a weird band to try to lock up as an exclusive (even though I am fond of them).

I agree. SDRE aren't a "Brand recognition" band like Hendrix, Metallica, Aerosmith, Eagles, Van Halen and The Beatles which actually are exclusives. Neither are Thrice or Megadeth. (Don't get me wrong, they're amazing, but ask a regular person whether they know Metallica or Megadeth, and the answer will almost certainly be that they know Metallica, but don't know Megadeth.).

Sunny Day Real Estate is pretty far from a "recognizable" band. Being one of the bands who laid the groundwork for all emo bands to come doesn't usually equate to success/recognition.

Bob Dylan* (song is 'meh')
Johnny Cash
Rolling Stones*
Santana
Iggy Pop-
Sonic Youth*
Queen-
David Bowie*
The Sword-
Rush**
Iron Maiden**
Public Enemy
Megadeth**
King Crimson (the only one I would be really excited for)
-Bands that Harmonix has had (including their time with the GH series)
* Bands that Rock Band already has
** Bands that Rock Band has that have a lot of RB content

In terms of Zeppelin, if it isn't Darlene or Hot Dog, it's a bad thing.
As for Pink Floyd, there's numerous songs that I wouldn't care to be in GH, my only exceptions being Run Like Hell and Brick in the Wall pt. 2.
Plus, if HMX or NS landed either of these bands, they'd make them exclusive. Activision is spending their money on numerous million dollar games, while HMX is being left in the cold while MTV is blowing their money on Cribs and other horrible reality shows.

Love and Rockets /and/ T. Rex? I'm really surprised Nevervision are actually including a goth band (L&R) in the setlist. Chances are they're going to pick something like So Alive, though, which is one of their less gothy and more psychedelic/post-punk tunes. Still, I'm quite impressed with this selection. HMX is awesome at selecting music, but the lack of real goth in RB is absolutely pathetic.
Would anyone be kind enough to provide a link to the pages where these two artists were announced?

I really, truly despise the current Guitar Hero franchise for A) oversaturating the market with these games, B) relentless promotion almost everywhere I turn and C) in my opinion having a game far inferior to Rock Band, for it's gameplay engine and it's lack of community as compared to Harmonix's relationship.
BUT THESE GUYS GET EVERY ****ING BAND I'D KILL FOR!!!!

But still, Plug-In Baby?!?! Guitar Hero keeps on getting so much Muse... Maybe one day we'll get more Muse DLC...
Who knows, though, maybe Neversoft got their game together on this one. GH: Metallica certainly showed signs of improvement in the Guitar Hero franchise. I'll wait for the reviews/playing this at a friends house.
And this just makes me wish for a Rock Band 3 even more now. :( I just love the variety of songs you get with a disc release and all the new features that can be added.

One thing I'm semi-confused about... first they say it will be over 50% from this decade, and 25% from the last two years or so. Then, I look over the list of bands and wonder exactly what tracks they can use? There are a ton of older bands there, or bands who had their best success in the 90s and prior.
I can basically pick out a couple of tracks based on the 25% recent thing. The 3DD track will probably be "It's Not My Time" and JEW will provide "Big Casino" or "Always Be". Weezer track will be from the Red album... Killers will probably be "Spaceman".

I am extremely ****ing pissed. I really, truly despise the current Guitar Hero franchise for A) oversaturating the market with these games, B) relentless promotion almost everywhere I turn...When you think about it, the whole oversaturating of the market by the Guitar Hero Franchise has been blown WAY overboad. Sure, they've got more on-disc games than Rock band, most notably the One-band focused Metallica and Aerosmith, but the series doesn't have that much DLC. Rockband on the other hand would rather focus on DLC (including full album downloads) than on disc expansions (although they've put out AC/DC Live which was way overpriced, and the different volumes track packs). They've also got Lego Rock Band coming out and THE BEATLES (which I can't wait for). So in the end, they have different methods of delivering their products, and to call GH oversaturating just isn't the case (as of yet). When LRB and The Beatles comes out, many may accuse HRMX of the same thing, which would be false aswell.
As for the relentless promotion, I completely agree with you. But this is a business, so even though it may get annoying, it's just the name of the game!

Sure looks like i'm getting GH: 5. There's so many bands on there I like, and even without knowing what songs are coming out on it, i'm placing a pre-order ASAP. Not to mention, it's coming out September 1st.... Megadeth album September 1st,... Megadeth on GH:5.... Let's just say I have a hunch the new Megadeth album is being released as GH DLC the day of GH: 5 release. I hope this isn't true, as RB is superior to GH in all ways (Except setlist), and the new Megadeth album would be a great exclusive to RB, but if Dave Mustaine is as smart as he's shown, I guarantee he's following the same path as Metallica last year with Death Magnetic.
Not to mention, they've finished recording and are mastering the tracks right now. There's still a few months left until release. They're at the point in time where they could release it next month, but hey, why not give the folks at Guitar Hero some time to chart the songs and throw them as album DLC?

If you're going to complain, at least do it in the right forum section. This isn't RB-related at all. Fortunatley, I could work some move and merge related mojo on it. ;)
And yes, we all know HMX can't work out great deals... we only have one measly Megadeth album and a single in the music store, and all we're getting metal-wise in the near future is some lame Iron Maiden 12-pack.
As for the GH setlist... only a handful of acts in there that the RB games don't have yet (A Perfect Circle, Cash, King Crimson, Rammstein) that i'm personally excited about (granted, RB has always been closer to my personal tastes than the newer GH games as far as song selection is concerned)... and taking the rather lacklustre DLC that GH:WT has received so far, I'm not getting another GH game again just to play a couple of songs that I really like.

*Sigh*
I'm getting really tired of these constant threads, can we not keep this in one place?
RB currently has 37 of the above-mentioned artists (47 are still up in the air).
There are 3 things to consider when looking at the Guitar Hero series:
1) Are you going to be able to enjoy the songs in that gameplay? The best songs have been ruined by Guitar Hero in the past ("Beat It" was absolutely horrible on the GH engine)
2) Song selection: Yeah, the artist selection is quite impressive to most people (not to me, there's too much crap in there) but what about song choices? Neversoft does have a bit of a history of choosing the wrong songs for their game (see Queen GH Pack), and I fully suspect that they will continue that tradition with some of the more popular bands on that list.
3) Are these artists/songs going to come to RB: Chances are yes, they will come to RB eventually. Remember when everyone thought that Iron Maiden were exclusive to GH? Well that got blown out of the water. The fact that these bands are willing to talk to GH indicates that they're probably just as willing to talk to RB as well. You just have to be patient and see what RB has up it's sleeve.

What point is it that you are making? That you personally don't like the album? I don't think that's really relevant to the discussion here in all honesty.
Song selection is always personal. While you really dislike "Peace Sells...But Who's Buying", myself and many others believe that it was a perfect choice for this game.
Also, it's the charts that matter. Is the song fun to play. Harmonix has consistently chosen songs that translate well to the format (they seem to have a gift for it in all honesty), rather than the popular songs that may not fit so well.
Let's consider the Steve Miller Band Pack 01:
2 incredibly popular songs and 1 that isn't as well known.
"The Joker": A mildly fun chart with just enough variety to keep a lot entertained.
"Space Cowboy": I don't think you'll find many people who would've argued that this should be added to RB (as most don't know it well enough), but after playing it most will tell you that it is amazingly fun, with more than enough switching up to keep it interesting and fun.
"Take The Money And Run": Easily the second-most popular track in the pack (behind only The Joker), is just as easily the worst song for a game. This is an endless frustrating chordfest that offers nothing in terms of variety or fun.
Guitar Hero often goes for the insanely popular stuff, fun be damned (You can't tell me that "We Are The Champions" would be more fun than something like "The Show Must Go On", "I Want It All" or "Tie Your Mother Down" by Queen). That's the problem I have with the GH Franchise, they don't know how to pick fun songs.

Oh, and HMX are doing;
-Beatles

That > GH5 (SLTS or not.) x1000000Since GH5 isn't out yet, and the songs from each artist aren't announced, how does that statement make sense? GH had GH:Metallica (best music game so far in my honest opinion), so that (or aerosmith) have to be compared to the Beatles game being that they are all based on one band and are full priced expansions.
The Maiden DLC would have to be compared to the Death Magnetic DLC. I mean, why compare DLC to a major installment to a rhyth game series. I mean, if you want to pay for it, that's fine, but it's still an expansion YOU ARE PAYING FOR.
What I'm trying to say is, the only game that can be justly compared to GH5 is RB3 when ever it gets released. There was no announcement at all out of E3 was there? I watched most of the EA confrence, and I sadly didn't see anything concerning RB.

Interestingly, the entry indicates that there are on-disc interviews with Shirley Manson and Matt Ballamy. Putting my speculation hat on for a moment, perhaps this means that both will appear as avatars in GH5?

another preview from game informer. the only interesting thing they mention is that world tour dlc will be compatible with the career mode of the game. they mention
"Career mode has been expanded and will make use of your DLC content from World Tour. Also being introduced are new bonus challenges that will reward you for achievements such as scoring 50,000 points while on Star Power. These challenges will unlock cheats, characters, outfits and instruments. Star Power has been refined and “Band Moments” have been introduced. These moments allow the full band to pull together during key sections of a song to maximize their score multiplayer. "

The funniest part about this video is that the "in video" advertisement that popped up was for The Beatles: Rock Band.

They waited that long to announce the Arctic Monkeys? I would've thought they would've announced a much bigger band. Ah well. Brianstorm should be pretty cool on drums.
