So, I was just wondering what the deal was? Sean said he'd have more info for us today, but I haven't seen it. What is the word?

He hoped he'd have info today, but didn't. There's a post about it in the Announcements Forum.
I would be interested to see if Activision denies this, or how long before they make a statement.

Denies what? Sorry, I haven't been on in awhile.

Apparently the compatibility patch for the PS3 was delayed because Activision moved to block it. They don't want us being able to use their GH3 controller in Rock Band, so it would seem. Yes, that's how they really feel about those of us who have purchased their products all these years.
Last word from Harmonix on the issue was that the patch has been fully tested and ready to go for a week or so, so despite it being just a rumour, it does happen to make a lot of sense.

This is still a RUMOR, nobody from any company has confirmed this. The only site to report it is Destructoid. It's a very unconfirmed rumor.

Assuming certain legalities have taken place though, the lack of a confirmation from any party is hardly surprising. Nobody is probably allowed to comment until the situation is resolved.
I'm assuming everybody else's GH3 box has this sort of thing on it that mine does:
"Activision authorises use of the Guitar Hero controller only with a Guitar Hero game product or other Activision branded product. Any other use is expressly prohibited. No other license, express or implied, is granted".
Given this notice on the box, if it's true and they don't change their minds, we'll never see that patch. Of course, if that ends up being the case, this is the last box with the Activision logo on it that'll ever set foot in my house.

That's a lot of assuming gong on. Assuming there is legal action, assuming that's the reason for silence. I mean, sure, the disclaimer is on the box, but on would hope Harmonix had mentioned this to Activision prior to launch. Personally, I think the silence could be due to them all hashing it out behind closed doors. If legal action were taken it would be on the public record, which it is not.

well if its true that its stopping ps3 owners from using gh3 controllers its only fair that they patch the xbox so they cant use it either if they are going to be aholes about. i mean seriously.

I just don't understand the policies around here. I understood it when it was "no announcements until we're 100% sure." I didn't like it, but it made sense. But recently, they keep reiterating that, but make announcements that don't happen. I mean, how do you drop the ball on an announcement about an announcement about what is going on with the patch you announced? So many layers of abstraction the announcment could have been "We all like pies." I mean, an announcement that far removed needed so little content and it still didn't happen. Well, at least Ubisoft patched up Assassin's Creed to stop freezing. That's one less buggy game in my life.

Oh, thanks for the heads up about the Assassin's Creed patch. I had been waiting for that one too! :D
And you know... THAT patch was submitted to Sony (SCEA) a week ago as well. It just finally got pushed out. I have a small glimmer of hope that the Rock Band patch is stuck in a similar situation and will be out next week. Maybe Harmonix can't comment because they don't know the exact status of where it is at Sony and their snail speed approval process. Most of me believes the Activision rumour, but still. It's a tiny window of hope.
Come to think of it, GH3 ALSO has a patch stuck in this same process. They announced on November 28 that it's "pending approval by Sony". Guess what... still not here. Does Sony have 1 intern that handles the entire patch approval process, or what?
