View Full Version : Squeaky strum-bar.

After reading about Rock Band for a while I decided to buy it as it seemed like it would be fun.
As I have been playing it, I've noticed the strum-bar has gotten to be very squeaky, but only when strummed down (up strums are silent as they should be). Although it is extremely squeaky now, when strumming downwards, it still functions perfectly when it comes to registering my strums (knock on wood).
Has anybody had a similar problem happen to them? If so, was it able to be fixed?
Thank you for your time.
EDIT: The date on my box is November 3rd 2007, if that helps at all.

I had this problem on an old PS2 Gibson controller.
I just opened up the guitar, grabbed some valve oil (like this: http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Juice-Valve-Oil-oz/dp/B0002F4M16), and put it all over the areas where the plastic was rotating against plastic. Worked like a charm and sounded quiet ever since.
You can find the stuff for really cheap at any music store.

That seems like an easy fix. Should I be worried about opening the guitar though, in case something does end up happening after more play time. Would the warranty still be there?

I had a squeaky strumbar, and it felt a little loose. I contacted EA and they sent me a new guitar, which works MUCH better than the first (the couple of songs I was having trouble on with long stretches of repeated notes I passed once I got my new guitar). The only issue I have now is that the buttons on the new one make a little clicking noise...
If you can, compare your strumbar to a friend's that isn't squeaky. If the friend's strumbar feels tighter, I would contact EA for a replacement.
