Hello all,

I just received my replacement pedal and was happily surprised to see some design improvements. Looks like HMX/EA are listening and answering some of our concerns. Below are some pics of the new pedal compared to the old one. I have pointed out some differences that I have noticed. Also there is some rattling coming from inside the orange piece below the pedal. It sounds just like the overdrive on the strat but it could be a small piece of plastic rattling around in there, I'll check it out later. Overall I am very happy with the changes, there is still some flex in the pedal but noticeably much less than before. Well, I hope this eases some of the worries about receiving the same type of kick pedal and easily cracking again. HMX/EA really do care. :)

Thanks for sharing, and I hate to be a downer, but...

This pedal design isn't necessarily new, it's just a variant. I guess there are slight differences depending upon the place of manufacture? My pedal (originally packaged in a launch-day bundle) also has the two added supports running the length of the honeycomb pattern and it has the partially exposed metal bar. Unfortunately it snapped at the base just like so many others have. Besides, I can only hope that if HMX were to really take a look at the pedal's weaknesses, they could come up with a better solution than two additional strips of plastic. :)

yeah i agree with you. It doesn't seem like very much as changed. Hopefully it will make somewhat of a difference though.

cool I appreciate your reply - I never saw this other variant and assumed it was new. I'll take your word for it and not assume it will last without some type of reinforcing.

thanks again :)

Yeah, I made a post about this a while back when I got my replacement drums. I also thought it was a new design and noticed the extra "walls" which is what I called them as well lol. I found out later that some people had gotten my replacement set as their launch set. One guy got the same set as I did on launch for his replacement and he swore it was better. I compared both of my sets and thought my replacement was better in every way. I assumed it was a new design. But apparently MorningThief581 is right. It is just a variant. Who knows when they will actually have a new design ready.

lol :p well besides feeling like an a** for not knowing it was a variant - this pedal feels better to me but not enough to use it as it is.(searched "new pedal" but couldn't find a related thread) I'm going to take the precaution and make a plate to go over the pedal. Did your replacement have something rattling around inside the orange piece?

If the pedals are snapping under both designs, it seems Harmonix didn't fully realize how a lot of people would use their equipmentment. Espically a kick pedal where some people would press down hard on it naturally. Parts that would normally and consistantly consume the heaviest use and most stress shouldn't be made of plastic. Harmonix should have had commen since enough to know this. What did they think, only little kids would be using their equipment??

The kick drum pedal, whammy bar and strum mechinism on the guitar just need a total redesign period! If the use of thicker plasitc, more reinforcing pieces, or more metal pieces means it drives up the cost of the equipment by 20-50 bucks, I'm sure people would be more than happy to pay a little more for better relyable equipment than deal with the crap people are buying now.

I bet you even the cheapest METAL pedal would hold up better than the best plastic crap.

not that I think it matters but it is my pedal - it broke in half and tried to glue it back together. You can kind of see it in the middle right pic.

I got the same reinforced pedal both times, the first one broke, so lets not rule that out. Also, my new one is like that an exactly the same.

Here was the post I made about it. I also posted pics in the thread but the site I used had a bandwidth limit and they barely lasted 5 minutes lol. I don't know of any good sites to upload my pics to. Anyway, here is the link:

I talk about the pedal 13 posts down.

Well I have the new design/variant whatever you want to call it, and it is already starting to crack! Just looking at it after a few hours of play, and it has a micro crack in the middle. This means that soon it will break. So a guy on here totally made a new pedal for his son out of wood and I have him making me one and he gurantees it will not break! Gotta trust someone else besides Harmonix/EA at this point, cause it has done nothing for me but give me equipment with problems!

sry but the strum mechinism is fine on the guitar its just a little rubber pad that is about less the a mm (no im not in the uk im being serious) to small. If you make it just a bit bigger it will fix almost all guitar strum problems.
