Hi guys
With Activision and Neversoft releasing their first facts on guitar hero 5 there is a lot to speculate about.
Just by the list of artists one can see that Neversoft is trying hard to close up on the rock Band on disc music-quality... as long as they don't pic some boring crap from these artists.
The formula sounds a lot like rock band 2 (Bob Dylan, Rush and so on) but with some artists many people asked for. Just take a look:
Guitar Hero 5 Artists as confirmed by Activision:
* 3 Doors Down
* A Perfect Circle
* AFI
* Arctic Monkeys

Damn, they get Rammstein, the Stones, Santana, Kaiser Chiefs, Peter Frampton, Iggy Pop....I hope that these artists will have some Rock Band DLC as well.
There is only little known about gameplay changes. There will be the opportunity to have the same instrument multiple times in just one band. Like two drummers, guitarrists and so on.
That might be a nice little feature, but nothing shocking or really valuable. Ok, some might be happy to be able to beat the carreer wth two drummers n stuff, but it is nothing that will bring big sales.
Well, as long as there is no saving feature for the band - I hate that a performance is over the second that only one bandmember fails - this game will not stand a chance landing on my shelf. But after all, they have heard the critics complaining about that over and over again, so they might finally change that for GH 5.
Waddaya think? Will you consider buying it? It is going to come out eight days before The Beatles: Rock Band, and we all know why - they wanna advertise the sh** out of it so that TB:RB disappeares in the mass.

I don't see anything jumping out at me as being so strong it makes up for the Guitar Hero formula.
I've played almost all of those bands in Rock Band and the ones I haven't I'm not overly bothered by. I'm missing what they are bringing to the table to entice me as a customer over to another product.

well, I don't think they are aiming on people like you and me - people that have already made their choice or buy both games anyway.
I think it's more for the avarage gamer that doesn't even realise that there is a heck of DLC in RB with many of those bands.
But hey, another point: Do you think one will be able to use GHWT DLC or even export GHWT songs from the disc??

This list of artists I think that solidify the fact that Guitar Hero, while being a band game, is designed, produced and tweaked for the plastic guitar players.

Nothing is huge enough to forgive the gameplay. We already have Maiden.
If the last few days have proven anything, it's that Harmonix knows how to launch a sneak attack of epic proportions. I believe we'll be seeing more of some of the most in-demand names on that list in RB...

They announced initially that yes, it would happen, then it got revised to 'some', whatever that really means.

Indeed. I recall Apples saying something along those lines upon their announcement of Maiden; and then look what happened. I'm gonna trust HMX with this one. :D

The thread title led me to believe that Neversoft was going out of business.
As for the artists thing, it doesn't really matter which artists that GH5 gets on disc. I see a LOT of those in Rock Band already, be they as disc songs or DLC, so I don't think there's anything to worry about. The introduction of new artists to the music game platform as a whole just increases the likelihood that these artists will have songs come to RB in the future. As a RB player, the news about GH getting all these new artists just gets me hopefuly about the future :)
XiXora
05-31-2009, 09:39 AM
I'll get it anyway. It's cheaper to buy a disc of music than to get individual DLC.
A lot of the bands I like too :) I am not too fond of the 1 band only discs. Although, I did buy GH:M… It came with free DLC and I'm a sucker for deals! Next RB I will probably buy is the next full version of it. RB2 is played more atm though. The format of the challenges and the tour makes it feel like a larger game than just play each song once to complete the game.
I'd prefer to see games released like this:
Release game -> comes with 80+ DLC of your choice. The only pitfall is if you do not have an internet connection…

That would be great ideally, but like you said, not everyone plays online or has access to an internet connection. It would be alienating a majority of their market.
I had a difficult time explaining to a mother and her son about how to download Patapon 2 to their PSP using the code that comes inside the game box. Ended up having to take their PSP home and do it all myself

It's already been discussed, but nothing really stands out at me. I have Rock Band and I'm happy, so there is no reason for me to get this game.

And anyways, if GH is getting all these awesome songs chances are we're going to see a good number of those show up in Rock Band sooner or later. Just look at the GH:WT vs RB2 set lists/DLC. There are a lot of crossover tracks.

That's all that interests me out of the whole list. Johnny Cash is confirmed as Ring Of Fire (Will that be the earliest master yet in a game?), Stones are confirmed as Sympathy For The Devil, Stevie Wonder is confirmed as Superstition, I believe Dylan was confirmed as All Along The Watchtower, and Queen + David Bowie might as well be confirmed as Under Pressure (Massive brownie points IMO!).
I'll bet money that the Iggy Pop song is The Passenger, assuming the master exists, and to be honest, I don't care much for Iggy's solo stuff.
Also, unless the Maiden song is going to be Phantom Of The Opera (Which I'm fairly certain the masters aren't available for), or Rime Of The Ancient Mariner, it's likely to fall short of almost anything in the 12 pack. And I can't say much Crue could top Dr. Feelgood, except maybe something off Too Fast For Love.

This is exactly why I won't buy GH:5 or any GH games anymore. HMX knows what they are doing and it wouldn't surprise me at all if several of those bands/artists show up as DLC before GH:5 hits store shelves.
It is the gameplay of the GH series that turned me away from it, and I don't really see a reason to go back to it since HMX has a far superior product on the market IMO. Just be patient and HMX will come through.

Rock Band already has the bolded ones that you listed. I would be most excited for Tom Petty, Gov't Mule, Derek Trucks, Dire Straits, Santana and The Rolling Stones off the OP's list. No doubt there is some great stuff that I would like to add to my collection.
But what really stands out is what is not on it to me. None of the really big boys (besides The Stones) like Zep, GnR, Clapton, Pink Floyd, Nirvana or The Beatles. I know that Zep is out of the running and that HMX has squared away The Beatles so maybe some of the other big boys are coming our way!

Also, the great thing about HMX's dlc system is the possibility of the 3/6/12/greatest hits/album packs by great artist. Yes GH may have Santana's Smooth on disc, but HMX may release the Abraxas album and blow them completely out of the water. Time will tell.

Because the 12-year-old mentality of the internet can't comprehend just preferring one thing over another without it being some sort of a slap in the face. Simply feeling that one engine is better for them than another does not make one a fanboy. It just makes them a person with a preference.

Funny, I have always thought the opposite about the charting.
HMX charts are deliberately dumbed down for their audience. GH generally chart every note within reason, which is what I want from an expert chart on guitar. None of this BRE crap either.
HMX are either lazy charters, or want less skilled players to feel better, both of which are utterly stupid.

Neversoft/Activision sucks biiiig. They completely butchered the series that it's unforgivable to me. If the game stayed as a straight-up "Guitar/Bass only" game filled with incredibly hard songs, I'm sure they'll have more respect for the game. But noooo, a band game they HAVE to make, just because they were "worried" that RB will be in the lead. Their entire fan-base is a bunch of little young boys/girl between the ages of 6-15. Also, their tournaments are incredibly mediocore: "Okay, you have 3 minutes to score as much points as possible, go!"

HMX charts are dumbed down for their audience? May I point you to little DLC track called Constant Motion. Try playing it on expert guitar and get back to me. I don't think that you'll find very many people that think HMX undercharted Megadeth either. There are plenty of other examples as well.
As for the second part, I don't understand how anybody can claim that GH songs are charted correctly after the abomination that was GH3.
Personally if you like GH better that is fine, but I don't see how you can say that HMX dumbs down the guitar charts.

Yngwie. I know that they couldn't have charted every note, but HMX could have made an effort.
The bit before the hard part on CM is undercharted at a ratio of 1;2 for notes played in-game and notes actuallt played on the recording.
Lots of fast strumming (such as that in The Middle by Jimmy Eat World) is undercharted as well

I prefer the RB engine as well, but that does not mean I wasn't there from the beginning with GH1. If anything that makes me one of the biggest RB fanboys, although I do still buy GH for the artists, not the game mechanics.

This. Unless they get Zeppelin, there is no way I will even consider buying this.

Yep that was the one that really stood out to me!!

Nothing is huge enough to forgive the gameplay. We already have Maiden.
Exactly how I feel. If RB got one or two Maiden songs I still might consider GH if the tracklist was good enough, but a RB mega 12-pack, means goodbye forever to GH. I'm not bashing GH without giving it a chance, I bought GH3, but there hasn't been a single change in GH that I have liked. No matter how good the music selection is, I just don't have fun playing it anymore, and find it completely visually unappealing. Not to mention I hate their disc-only based approach.

I can't be the only one who noticed a lack of Aerosmith, Metallica and Guns N Roses.

Have you seen GH drum charts? Freestyles every 3 notes for Gods Sake.
At least they don't subtract parts of the drum track out for an activation window.
You know it to be true! ;)

Yeah, I hate the drum fill activation in RB, not that the hit-both-cymbals thing is much better. I'd much prefer a left foot pedal. Go figure. Guitarists get an activation foot pedal, and not drummers. Eyes rolling time.

They release so many guitar heros that if you want to REALLY find someone online you have to have the most recent one. This is a huge reason why I prefer RB.
Also, the gameplay in RB is better... and the Band experience over all is much much better.

I don't get why everyone says the gameplay in RB2 is better. Ever since Metallica, Guitar Hero has had the better engine and the better charts, IMO.
Time will tell if they can keep it that way.

They have Alter Bridge...I am partial to that...dammit HMX, get ALTER BRIDGE!!!
Anyways, I think HMX has a pretty big sneak attack ready for GH. Due to Alice Cooper, Iron Maiden, and several other artists over the past few weeks, I think they have something ready to blow the hell out of GH.

Billy Squier, Bon Jovi, Bush, Children Of Bodom, David Bowie, Deep Purple, Dire Straits, Duran Duran, Gorillaz, Grand Funk Railroad , Iggy Pop, Johnny Cash, King Crimson, Muse, Queen & David Bowie, Rammstein, Santana, Smashing Pumpkins, Spacehog, Sublime, T. Rex, The Rolling Stones, The Sword Thrice, Tom Petty, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
are the Artists that got me interested in the game some of those bands I'm suprised we got so little to nothing from all these bands
HMX, if these are in the pipe, I suggest you push them up the pipe over some of the not so epic stuff in the pipe (NOTE : not saying any of these are EPIC but kinda sad we dont have.)
Also lol at two Tom Petty songs yet really big frowny face too :(
DOUBLE NOTE: if they have Billy Squier "The Stroke", Deep Purple "Smoke on the Water", Gorillaz "Clint Eastwood" and Grand Funk Railroad "Some kind of Wonderful" I'll buy the game hell "The Stroke" in itself is worth the purchase to me...I'm angry all we got out of Billy Squier was a christmas song :/

So wait, they have Queen & David Bowie meaning they have Under Pressure?
Well I'll be, I might have to play this at a party or a convention rather than completely ignore it.

still no In Flames :(
Take This Life was in GH3. Disconnected was recently released as DLC for GHWT.
Unless you mean classic In Flames, in which case I agree.
...but there's Darkest Hour, A Perfect Circle, and Children of Bodom, so I'll bite.
I do wish they ever made a game where I liked more than five songs, though.
