So I was in a Gamestop early this morning to pick up a Wii for my brother and his family and noticed them receiving a lot of boxes of Rock Band in their daily equipment. After discussing it with my wife later in the day I decided that's what I wanted for Christmas and we went back to get it. I was hoping they'd grab me a new box from their recent shipment and when I got home I noticed the date sticker on the bottom. Oct 23rd. This made me think that perhaps they had more in the back than the new ones they just received and just grabbed me an old one.

With all the problems people are having with their peripherals I'm wondering whether I should take it back and see if they have one with a more recent date on it or do you guys think it will make any difference? I figure if they have more reliable ones in production a brand new shipment of them would have them.... I would rather get a good new one (if they exist) than have to deal with sending things back for refurbished items. Especially since I'm not opening mine until Christmas and there will probably be an influx of defects from families opening it on Christmas and breaking things that same day.

What do you think?
What was the date that your box had on it?
Did your instruments break?

Thanks.

IMO I believe that the Company had full knowledge that the game controllers were defective but not to the extent we are seeing. Why would they therefore release such a highly rated and anticipated game as a Special Edition without the option to buy a specific instrument? Some might say that it fills up their pockets with more dough but I believe that by knowing of a problem, they reduced it by not adding individual instruments to the mix.

To answer your question, I think it makes no difference because so little time has gone bye that a change in their production line is highly unlikely (unless you give in to my conspiracy theory in which they fixed the line weeks ago).

If your guitar breaks down, here is my solution to that problem that works. I am lucky to have a working drum and mic and I must say I have had the greatest time with the game since I can play with my daughters as a family band as well as soloing it.

Merry Christmas and I hope you enjoy the game.

Here is that 360 guitar fix:

I saw someone put a YouTube video on how to fix the guitar by tightening screws inside, I opened my guitar (I had avoided doing this to not void a warranty but given my replacement order has once again been misplaced I have no choice) but that wasnt the issue. The issue is the metal strips that interact when you strike the strum both up and down. As strange as this may sound, I took a piece of that free Hitman ticket that I received in a DVD (not the ticket but a attachment of it) and cut a small piece about 1 centimeter high and 4 cm long. I folded it three times and placed it between the plastic molding and the metal strip to make it move closer the other strip thus permitting a better response. I put the guitar back together but only used some of the screws (there a a LOT) and tested the thing. After finally surviving Enter Sandman, Highway star on Medium (I know, i sux) as well as Green Grass and others, I opened the guitar to check the strip and it was still firmly in place and the guiter is working fine, If you really pissed off and have some skill with a scissors and screwdriver, I recommend giving this a try, It sure beats having to send in your better looking guitar and get a "used" one in return.

I was at gamestop today and they had new unopened boxes that had production dates of like November 20th from what I could see *I wear glasses and it was behind the counter and kinda small so IM not 100% sure* but it was for sure november on it.

Thanks for the input. I decided to just return it to Gamestop and get a knewer one just in case. I may get one at Best Buy and add the protection plan.
