View Full Version : PS2 Rock Band - Anyone feel like this is a scam?

Given that our only information on the PS2 version is that it's coming out on Nov. 18 (seen via an email and not anywhere on the interwebs other than hidden in a blurb about DLC for PS3/360), the lack of any acknowledgment from the rockband.com website or harmonix website, or the name of the 3rd party company that is supposedly porting the game to the PS2, I would say that it almost seems like this game is not going to be coming out for the PS2.
Odd that a game is coming out on a system and isn't acknowledged whatsoever by the game's creators.
While part of me really hopes I'm wrong, and it's just an error from somebody on not posting the info (HMXJohnlok linked to http://www.harmonixmusic.com/press.html for information, but there's no info about the PS2 other than (and on PLAYSTATION®2 computer entertainment system December 18, 2007 in North America.) and the regional exclusivity stuff for Europe.
Is it asking too much to get a little more information about the PS2 version or is every person at Harmonix going bonkers post-release to give us the name of the porting company?
I'd like to have an idea of what new features are in the PS2 version that will hopefully make the sting of no DLC available (one can only hope for free dlc a la amplitude; granted those were just remix data files not full songs, but hey it worked).
Just seems odd that we have a release date with no more information than that.
Add in the removal of the bundle from gamestop.com and more confusion sets in. there was so much information on the PS3/360 versions about the contents of said bundles and how the connections would work that the lack of any info on the PS2 version is strange. Blame the 3rd party, I guess, but I can't just blame the darkness all the time.
Long whine here from a broke newlywed; but the plan is to use the PS2 USB instruments on a future PS3 (game purchase separately; screw backwards compatibility)
I'm sure I'm not the only confused PS2 hopeful. Then again, my gamestop told me last week the game was coming out on 12/11, so checking the Internets saddened me again with the truth.

the PS2 version is coming out 12/18. It is going to have the same peripherals as the other two have, the guitar is going to be a wireless strat like with the ps3 version. I would assume that song lists are going to be essentially the same and the game is 159.99.

I don't know if scam is the right word, but they're certainly ignoring the PS2 version right now. Since the launch is supposed to be a week and half away, I'm forced to speculate it has been delayed. As much as I hate to rely on gamestop's site, it looks like the bundle (and not necessarily the standalone game) might be delayed. That would make sense with all the instruments EA is having to send out because of the defective PS3/360 instruments. Doesn't leave a lot for the poor PS2 bundle.

if you feel its a scam then buy a 360 or ps3
you get more out of the game anyways

I bet you get no custom creation. The PS2 simply can't handle playing all your custom stuff in th background. So long as the game works tho you should be elated

I gave up on the whole lack of information on the PS2 version. I was going to buy a used PS2 to play this game on but it seemed like waiting was just going to never come with the delays. And the fact I was a PS2 owner for 5 years and the thing blew up last year & I don't like the slim versions I thought it was a waste to give Sony another $129 for something that will not get new games after this holiday season. I also got so angry with Sony's cheaper PS3 not being backwards compatable for the 40 some PS2 games I own, that I just went and bought an XBox 360. At least it has a 3 year warranty! But finding a 360 set required me to drive 30 minutes away from my local Walmart to another one... As all the local one had was crappy PS3 and I'll never buy another product from Sony again!
But if you are determined to stay with PS2, something that I'm sure you know they will not come out with new games for beyond this Xmas to force you to buy a PS3... Then I have a ton of PS2 games I want to sell for CHEAP that I took very good care of.
So trust me, I understand you say you're a newlywed and broke (I am broke too, car's alternator went out 3 days ago)... Save your money and buy yourself FIRST OF ALL a set of Rockband for 360 (or PS3 if you like how they treat you like crap)... then save up and get yourself a cheap arcade version of 360 at Walmart for $279. At least it's recent, better graphics and you'll be able to find games for it for years to come. But get the Rock Band set first, because they are selling out everywhere and it will be easy to find 360s or PS3s. I'm just telling you, I wouldn't go with PS3.... Sony lost my business after my PS2 tore up and then the PSP died and they refused to fix it.

A company can't be obliged to support outdated technology. The fact that they have chosen to do so at all is interesting. Considering that this is Harmonix flagship game, it's absolutely amazing that they'd spend any resources at all on the PS2.
You don't see Halo 3 (Bungie), Oblivion (Bethesda), GTA 4 (Rockstar), etc on outdated systems.
Seems like it's an EA and Activision thing to support outdated consoles until they are no longer in production.
No offense to PS2 owners, but.. there comes a time when you have to realize that your console is going to be on the back burner (if it's even relevent at all)

The sad reality is that the PS2 is coming to its end of support life. It's been around a long time for a console these days. I refuse to give Sony any money, so there will be no PS3 in my house unless one falls from the sky for free. If you actually want to play other games, a new console probably is your answer.
I know it is a lot of cash to plunk down, but I guarantee that buying a 360 is the way to go. No console I've ever owned has gotten this much use. I love my Wii, but it honestly doesn't get turned on and used very often. The 360 gets turned on and used by everyone in the house ever day. 90% of the old Xbox games work on it and used Xbox games are cheap. While I really don't like MS's business practices, I can say the 360 is one thing they've done 100% right. I'd steer you away from the Arcade versions. For just a little more you can get one of the HD versions. From what I've read, I don't think the Arcade versions can play the old XBox games, which for me would be a gigantic sticking point. YMMV.
