Will the rock band mic fit in any mic stand? I know most stands are adjustable, and it looks to be just about actual size, but I'm afraid to buy a stand and have it be a waste of money (360 version so I don't want to bring it along with the cord, but I might just do that when I run to a music store).
Also, has anyone checked out mic stands at music store and know how much they run? It would make playing and singing so much easier, but a friend told me they're about $50 for a low-end stand. I'd be willing to spend that much if I have to, but cheaper is always better.

Your friend's full of snot, just kidding. Low end stands are around $13-20 USD on sale at Guitar Center. Heaven help me the best I've seen around is $12 at random places and some used for $10 on eBay. The stand is rather universal but you must make sure the clip at the top can hold the rather large (30 to 32.5mm tapered) diameter of the Rock Band mic. Every mic stand I've ever seen doesn't come with a mic clip (which is what screws on top of the stand to hold the actual mic). Mic clips are about $4 plus or minus $2 and are sold separately.
Basically buy any mic stand you want but make sure the mic clip you buy fits the Rock Band mic well. And if you're going to talk to a salesman, you might as well ask for a sanity check before you whip out the MasterCard.
For example this is the one I will get, although GC has another brand for $12.99, same thing.

No the Rock Band mic will not fit it just any stand. Best Buy sells a mic stand for about $20 and it works great for the Rock Band mic, the mic itself is a little hard to get into the clip but once it's in it won't fall out. This is the stand I think most of us have bought since it's cheap and also has a boom arm for if you want to sing and play drums.

In the meantime, there are plenty of household objects that function just as well as a mic stand. My personal favorite is the "unplugged lamp with the bendy head, light bulb removed" mic stand.

As someone else posted, you can buy the universal mic holders that screw into the top of the mic stand. Thy range from about $3 to $10 depending on where you get them. The are usually plastic and tapered so they fit mics of different widths. I just use one of the mic stands from my band. The cheap mic holder on that works fine, so I doubt you will have much trouble. My backup mic in the band is a lot thinner than our lead mic, but both fit in the holder with no problem.
The stand itself can be a cheap $20 aluminum job or a $200 chain link death metal beast, or just about anywhere in between. Just browse places like Musician's Friend, Music123, or Zzzounds. They sell a lot of cheap, low end stuff online.

I used a sweeper from 1975, a sneaker, a bungie cord, a 10lb dumbell and a lot of patience. :D

Ok, I will field this question because I went out 3 days before Rock Band came out to get a mic stand (and some other "essential" buys). It all starts out with me finding the basic mic stand that they were advertising. I purchase it and my other finds and I leave the store. Fast-forward to 11/20. I get the bundle and I finally break out the mic stand and put it together to find out that there is no mic clip. I'm totally floored because I asked the guy at GC if I needed one and he said that it will have a clip. No dice. So I go back to GC and tell them about the situation and he was like "Oh yea, they are sold separately!" WTF?!?!?!!? Selling only half of a complete item, um, stupid? Well anyways, the mic clip didn't fit and with some "tough love" to the clip, it now holds the mic. If you do buy the cheap version go to the accessory section with the pedals and ask for the mic stand clip. Oh and the base model mic stand is a ProLine. I don't want anyone else to have a difficult time like I did.
Is there an official rock band microphone stand???

I don't know what that the GC rep was smoking, the ProLine as well as the Muscian's Gear do not come with a mic clip simply because half the time you would need a different size than what came with it. It'd be like buying a soccer ball and a pair of size-10 cleats would come with it. It's presumptuous to assume that the extra bit is going to be in the size you need.
I wouldn't consider the ProLine to be the base model when the Muscian's Gear mic stand is a scant 65% of the ProLine's price ($20 vs $13).
Basically swallow your pride and bring the Rock Band mic into the store to make sure the clip you buy is the right size and make sure you get a clip since many stands don't come with one.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I honestly didn't even think about the difference between a regular and a boom stand. Might end up with both just so I can sing from either instrument, and thanks for the warning about the clips too. Gonna head somewhere tomorrow with the mic to see what I can get.

Nope. Maybe by next year they might release one but that's a dumb idea now because we all have went out and bought our own. They could of made a ton of money if they branded their own stand to begin with. We all would of bought it..

A couple of thoughts on mic stands. I was fortunate and my wife had one in the closet that she has allowed us to use.
Our stand came with the head, incidentally. I have seen a couple types, though, over the years. Decide which kind you want. Some of the clips are hard plastic, and the RB mic is kind of fat. Our clip is rubbery, so it could stretch to fit the mic. I have seen ones that are rubbery and mounted on an oval shaped 'loop' parallel to the mic. I don't like these because the mic seems to flop around too much..
ON another front, do yourself a favor and get a 'boom' stand. It's articulated so it can be angled in toward a guitar player, etc. The straight up and down ones are only a good choice if your singer will never, ever play another instrument while singing.
