I've been doing vocals on expert for a day now and most of the other songs have been a breeze, but when I sing this song it tells me my pitch is way off and I can't do any of the phrases. Are some songs on completely different pitch scales? Whats up?

I did horrible on Hard vocals myself, and I know the song fairly well. Something seems off about it, but it might just be the way that we're trying to sing it.

Since it changes to whatever octave you sing, I don't see how it can be "off". I dunno, I didn't have any problem with it on expert.

okay I'm still having trouble with this, some parts are way too low and impossible to hit, I've been trying for an hour now.

Damnit, it's been like three hours and I'm still having trouble.

For this song I feel like I have to "hop" on pitches. If I sing it how I think the song actually goes, I do bad.

Maybe watch that you're not scooping into notes. Get right on the notes and sing it straight. Maybe this is a song that is too low or high for your register, but do the song a few times and figure out where you need to jump octaves. I do that all the time.

Weird, I didn't have any problems with this song whatsoever on expert. I think the one that gave me the most trouble was "Here It Goes Again".

Wow.... Sinch must sing in real life. He's right... Rock Band is bad about penalizing you for scooping into phrases (I am a sloppy singer and do it often, as can be observed by the tail-wagging of the pitch arrow as i start a phrase).

Sing it with staccato-like attack onto the words, and hold the correct note/pitch no matter how crappy your tone gets (as Rock Band doesn't care).

This game will not make you a better singer. It teaches you to emulate a processed and mixed vocal track.

You're right, Tarzan, I do. :D

I think theres a lot of scooping that the artists do and its not put into the actual game. I think "Maps" has that, where she sings "Wait...", I always heard it as a slight scoop, but in the game they want you to sing it straight. Can't think of another example atm.

Sitch & Tarzanman give good advice. :)

Also, it may seem obvious, but if you're familiar with the song outside of Rock Band, you may need to be extra careful that you're actually following the pitch lines on the screen rather than relying on your knowledge of the song. It's easy to introduce slight variations to a song you know well without realizing it -- try turning your mic volume down and the singer volume up, or just sitting through practice mode a few times without singing to be sure you're not "hearing" the melody incorrectly in places.

I didn't have a problem with this song in expert, but Here it Goes Again took me a few extra tries because I wasn't paying strict attention to the onscreen notes through the fast part, and was guilty of more or less making up part of the melody.

Good luck.

Completely agree with those of you having trouble with matching the pitch on hard. It seems like I do better on the songs I don't know than the songs that I do. I think it might be a familiarity thing where I'm used to singing it a certain way that always seems right, but it's not. As far as the "tail wagging" phenomenon, I've been having problems with that as well. Any ideas on how to correct myself?

The two things I have tried (and had varying levels of success on) are:

1. Stacatto-like, robotic attack on the notes/phrases.

2. Starting the phrase early. I dont' know how often the PS3 polls the microphone, but there is noticeable lag even when I hit the exact pitch on time. Rock Band doesn't penalize you for extra sounds/notes so starting the phrase early is necessary for the game to catch up with what you are singing.
