HONG KONG (AFP) – Hong Kong officials say they have found traces of cocaine in cans of Red Bull, a few days after Taiwanese authorities confiscated close to 18,000 cases of the popular energy drink.
Officials at the Centre for Food Safety said a laboratory analysis found tiny amounts of the illegal drug in samples of "Red Bull Cola," "Red Bull Sugar-free" and "Red Bull Energy Drink", a spokesman said.
The drink has now been taken off the shelves of major supermarkets, the spokesman said in a statement issued late Monday. He added that the amount of cocaine found in the drinks posed little health danger.

That explains it. Cocaine is pretty expensive. The other day I went to buy a 4 pack of them and it was 10 bucks. They had Red Rain next to it for 5 bucks. I looked at the ingredients and they both had the same so I bought Red Rain.

It tasted basically the same and was half the price. Though I don't have the urge to play guitar and rub my teeth.

They use coca leaf as a flavoring agent. This is pretty well known. They put it through a chemical process to remove the cocaine, but I would assume "cocaine-free coca" is about the same as "decaffeinated coffee"; that is, there's still a minute trace left, but not enough to do anything to you.

Still won't keep me from mixing Red Bull in with my absinthe, though.
