So, my roommate has designated himself as the drummer (one and only. if anyone suggests they do drums or even show that they are better than him, me for example, he throws a b***h fit. No big deal. I'm better at guitar anyway. But what REALLY annoys me is that when he drums, he doesn't hit he pad entirely, he hits low enough so part of the shaft of the drum stick hits the plastic ring around the outside. So instead of it being a muffled thud, it makes a CONSTANT clack clack clack clack sound. I've asked him to please hit a bit higher (I'm sure it's not good for the drums or the sticks AND it's annoying) and he only replies with "it's how I do it. Sorry. I'm not changing it."

What blatant disregard for someone else's request, especially when it's unbearable to be in the same room while he's playing. Even as I write this my music is turned almost to max and my door is closed and I can still hear it. It's SO annoying. Any advice? I was thinking about mod'ing the drums and putting a foam ring around it so when he hits it will ease the blow....

Take his drum sticks and hide them and make him play with his hands.

If they're your drums, tell him it's your rules or he doesn't play. Don't let him hit the rims, don't let him monopolize the drums. If he doesn't like it, kick him out of the band. Or make him the bassist and play nothing but Maps until he quits. :D

LOL!:p If that doesn't work, nothing will!

It really comes down to who owns the game. If you own the game, you make the rules. If you don't, you're SOL. Doesn't sound like much of a roommate if he commandeers one instrument and then proceeds to play it in an annoying manner without listening to polite requests.

Lower the drum set. My friend was doing that and it was becasue he was holding his hands so low. I lowered the set to midget height and now he hits the pads.

Muffled thud? Oh buddy, you are in for quite the surprise.

Well, RELATIVELY muffled thud. At least it's not an ear-piercing clack clack clack. As far as who owns it, we went halfsies on it, so it's not something that can be settled that easily. I think next time he leaves the room I'll lower the set a bit and hope he doesn't notice.

lower it in stages, like 1" one time, then another 1", etc... if you likely drop it down a large amount he'll notice, its kind of like when you go to work and sit down in your chair at your desk (if you have a desk job) you know the instant someone has been messing with it.

You have just learned the biggest key to having a room mate, my friend. Everyone learns it eventually:

N-E-V-E-R (and I do mean never) go halfsies on ANYTHING with someone you're not married to!

Only suggestion I have is to bring some girls over to witness him being such a ***** about monopolizing the drums. Make sure he hears them say "What a dick." And try to get one of them to mention (again, within his earshot) how "he can't even hit them right <giggle>"

Or set a schedule when the game is yours and when it is his, and refuse to play with him anymore. It won't take long before all your buds will be coming over when it's "your" game, since they know they'll actually have some fun.

THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST FRICKEN ADVICE EVER! ROFL! It's true, he won't change his habits unless his manlihood is at stake and embarassed in from of the betties!

Man, I seriously think if he's like this in one aspect of life...it probably transcends to other facets of roommate life. It sounds like he needs a little growing up to do. But you know what, if you can be 'the man' in the situation, addressing the issue will prepare for such situations like...um MARRAIGE. No joke.

I don't even think I go halfsies with anything with my wife(well, I guess we couldn't since she's a Stay at home mom :) ) ROCK ON MEN!

There is only one way to settle this dispute.

DRUM OFF (just like when Animal of the Muppets took on Buddy Rich!)

Check it out!
