Here it goes. I bought a new PS3 today as my 60GB system is all sorts of messed. Does anyone know how to transfer the data from 1 system to another with out losing my DLC, Game Files and account information? I also purchased a 2GB USB drive to help transfer the data. Files I need to SWASP are:

Game Saves
DLC
Down Load games Purchased at the PS Store
PSN account information
and Friends List.

Thanks again for any help.

This has been asked before in the tech support forums and not answered really. It seems that a full backup may or may not work. If not then you're pooched because the save game is locked. And, no, we have no idea why it's locked either.:(

Why not just put the 60gb's Harddrive in your new Ps3 ?

If his old system is "messed", why take a possibly bad component from a wonky system and put it in your new good system? You should just be able to copy the game save ove and be done with it. Pure and Simple.

The harddrive has nothing to do with faulty components at least give it a try..

I can not remove the OLD drive as it needs to go to SONY, for warentee work. The 40GB system is the temporary fix while I wait for sony to fix the other system.

Glitches I have is 60GB overheats, and causes games to Lock up making them virtually unplayable after 20 to 30 mins.

The instuctions I have for warenty tell me to restore the 60GB erasing everyhting, but not until I have backed up the files. Unfurtonately it fails to tell you how to back up and transfer the files.

HA This is the reason why I hate sony, and refuse to buy another PS3. I've gone thru 3 PS2's and 1 PS3 and I vow to never make the same mistake again. I bought myself an Xbox.
Instead of getting a PS3, you should have gotten a 360. Also your 40GB temporary fix is extremely cheap, and isn't backwards compatable. But when you get your other one working, if you want to buy any PS2 games hit me up. Because after having broken PS2's, a PS3, and even a PSP... and I'm not even a real gamer, I maybe play 1 day a week if that. At least my 360 has a 3 year warranty!

Well I have been with Playstation since playstation1. I have an extensive game collection and that was one of two reasons I bought the PS3.

Other reason is I am a huge FINAL Fantasy player and outside of some of the smaller packs released to the hand helds Squaresoft has kept the franchise on the playstation since it left nintendo.

As for an XBox 360 I looked at them today and it is appealing but most games I play are released on all 3 systems.

*gasp* Objectively deciding what system you get based on what games you want to play on it!? This is madness!
