Oh I got that beat. I just got a second one for trade. Someone traded my Husband a PS3 for a tribal Half Sleeve. Other than time (100 - 150 hour average) not a lot of material costs to do a sleeve so probably about 14 - 20 bucks lol.

I bought the 80GB for $500 on amazon.com about a year ago. You can now get the 160GB for 500 bucks. I wish I waited a little longer, but my 360 broke(like every other one does), and I was so fed up with the crappy hardware in the Xbox that I had to go out and get a Ps3 right away. I think I made a good decision.

True fans would know that they once released 20gigs and 120gigs. What you say about the 40, 80, 160 gigs is true, but they did release those models at one point. Plus, who knows what you can find on Ebay!
For your sake, I hope you got the 60gig model. It is by far the best. Even though the memory storage wasn't as high as it is now, you could change the hardrive to get more memory. Mine now has 120, as apposed to the 60 I used to have.

20GB proof:
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/705/705887p1.html and http://reviews.cnet.com/consoles/sony-playstation-3-20gb/4505-10109_7-32085020.html (on the CNET one, read the Editors note, you'll have to scroll down a bit to see it)
I remember the 20 clearly because I was at target one day, and was lucky enough to even be looking upon a PS3 box. This was back when they were first released. There were 3 60gigs there and 2 20gigs.
120GB proof:
There is none! I got confused because I have 120gigs on my PS3 right now. That's just because I switched it out with the old 60gig hardrive.

*edit: I just looked. The biggest right now is 500gb @5400. Don't bother paying more for 7200rpm the slight boost in performance is like in mili secs and creates more heat than the 5400 drives.

LBP is great. Not my favorite (becuase RB2 holds that title), but still great. Some of the PSN games are really good. I just bought Zen Pinball, and its alright. Everything you could ever want to know about changing the PS3 HDD can be found here (http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?message.uid=28102378#U28102378). I'm not sure 1 Tb drives are available yet (since it uses laptop-sized HDD), or if they will work. I upgraded mine to 500 gb and turned the old 80 gb hd that was originally in mine into an external drive for media storage. It was a fairly simple process and cost about $120 or so total, and it was well worth it.
I don't need backwards compatability, if I wanna be nostalgic, i'll turn on my CFW PSP and play my old PS1 games.
All PS3's can play PS1 games, regardless of the model. The variation in backward compatibility only applies to PS2 games.

This.
In my 60gb, its actually a ps2 driver. They cut it to compensate for costs.
All ps1 games are run off of an emulator inside the hardware.
EDIT- Nash deleted me off his friends list because my ps3 broke, so I was offline for 2 months.

Congrats. I have a PS3, and have had it about a year and a half, and I love every aspect of it. since then I've also picked up a 360, and though th 360 is awesome too, I just don't like the exclusives as much (mostly becuase I'm not a fan of FPS games.)
That said, I hope you enjoy. the system itself is an absolute beast of a machine, and no matter what I do, it's always in great condition and I've not had a single problem with it. (my Xbox red Ringed within 2 weeks.)

Its rare, but the early models break due to disc drive problems, or CPU failure most prevalent in the 60gb model.
I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. The failure rate is low. Something like 1.5%

Over heating is a major problem. When you get it, make sure it is in an open area. Have you heard about the yellow light before? I'm think it comes from overheating, but I'm not sure. If your PS3 has a yellow light where the green light should be, then you should complain to the seller. I doubt that'll happen, though.

I'm going to put it on a wooden floor, is that ok?
war_lord
06-07-2009, 08:58 AM
Like FloodOne said, the failure rate is very low... and the YLOD is almost nonexistent with some preventative care.
The wooden floor should be fine, just try to keep plenty of space around it and especially don't cover the fan vents. Dust the machine every other week or so, and hit the vents with some compressed air to keep them clear as well.

The yellow light is hardware failure. That's what I had.
A blinking red light will come on after a couple minutes if your machine is over heating. when that happens its time to send it in to Sony.

Actually, compressed air is a bad idea. Use a low power dust buster vacuum to keep the vents clean.

This happened to me a 4-5 times. After I hold the power button to shut it off, it beeps 3 times before it shuts off. It means it's overheating? It only happens once in awhile, so I don't think it's such a big deal right now.

No, I don't think you have anything to worry about.
All ps3's come with a failsafe shutdown in the event of over heating. My friend had to have his repaired for over heating, and he could turn the system on for 5 minute intervals before it automatically shut off.

'Tis true. Good things come out of trying to post things that appeal somewhat to both perspectives. I did a head to head comparison during the first day of E3, and received many grateful posts from respective owners.
The only really "big" thing that Microsoft announced was what most game enthusiasts already knew about; Project Natal. It looks awesome from what I've seen of it, and I'm sure 360 owners will appreciate it, but it's just not enough for me to justify purchasing an Xbox. Sure, it's a cool little interactive device, and many claim it "revolutionary", but it's probably going to cost an upwards of $100. Topple on a 360 Pro, an extra controller with a plug-and-play kit, and a year of Live, and you're looking at a grand total $515 plus tax (with Minnesota's 6.75% tax, that's around $550). $550, and you don't even get a good game. You can play Kung Fu Panda or Lego Indiana Jones. I don't know about you, but things like that stopped appealing to me back in 5th grade.
I don't mean to go all PS3 fanboy on you, because I like both systems, but I prefer the PS3, but here are the stats: You buy an 80 GB PS3 that comes bundled with Motorstorm. Right off the bat, you have something more than that Xbox 360 Pro; 20 more GB of memory. You purchase an extra controller and charge it using that extra USB cable you have lying around. Maybe you want a headset? Use the one you have for your phone; a Bluetooth. Or if you don't have one, go out to your local Target or Walmart and buy the Warhawk bundle. For $30, you get Warhawk, a fun online shooter, and you get a nice Bluetooth headset (I own this package, so I can speak for its validity). So now you've got all the basics that you need to get started; all for $480 (with Minnesota's 6.75% tax, that's $515).
"But you said that you got that cool Project Natal thing with the Xbox bundle! You're making it seem like the Xbox is way more expensive that way!" All right, valid point. If you want a video camera that interacts with you, go to Walmart and buy "The Eye of Judgement" game with starter pack and PS Eye. It says that it's $65.82 on the website, but I've seen it on clearance at my local Walmart for $29.88.
If you'd like to add that cost onto the total of the PS3, then it'd cost about $510 (with Minnesota's 6.75% tax, that's around $545). You get one more game than with the 360 Pro, 20 GB more memory than with the 360 Pro, a free online service, and you save five dollars while you're at it. Why don't you take your $550 to the store, get that PS3 bundle, and buy yourself a dinner at Mickey D's?
Sounds good, doesn't it? ;)
