Be honest. I never read a book outside school until I bought Angels & Demons the other day. I have to say, when you read good books, reading is very fun. Do any of you like to read, if so what kind of books?

btw, I haven't seen the movie...

Nelson DeMille is my favorite author and I enjoyed Plum Island very much. I also enjoyed The Da Vinci Code, but I want to read more of DeMille's work since my brother has a bunch of his novels.

Books about the Crusades, horror, vikings, Tolkien/Lovercraft-esque stories, Special forces (particularly the British SAS) and sc-fi are usually what I read.

Whenever I'm not playing, I'm reading. I usually prefer Anne Rice, but I've been reading her books for quite a long time and got kinda sick of her style, so I started to read Stephen King and Neil Gaiman. I'm enjoying those two authors' books quite a bit and would recommend them for anyone.

Metal.

I'm particularly fond of Vonnegut, David Wong, Dan Brown (guilty pleasure), Tolkien, Orson Scott Card, George Orwell, and similar authors. I want to read some Lovecraft, but haven't yet.

Neil Gaiman is a great writer. I was a King fan when I was young but the magic is gone for me.

I was at Border's the other day, and I never realized how many books Stephen King has written. He took up a whole section. The shelves went like: Horror, Sci-fi, Romance, Stephen King, Young Adult, sports, etc.

As most forum regs will know, I love to read. Favorite authors include George R.R. Martin, Steven Erikson, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Lovecraft, Jonathan Franzen and Goethe. I'm also really fond of old folk tales and myths.

King can be a fun writer, especially when he writes fantasy (the Dark Tower books are brilliant) and short stories.

Movies tend to cut out all the good parts that are in the book. I have yet to see a movie that was better than the book.

George R.R. Martin is by far my favorite author.

Others I enjoy... Chrichton, early King and Orwell.

Bradbury and Asimov were fantastic authors as well.

I'm not a fan of Tolkien, through no fault of his own. Everybody ripped off his style, and now most High Fantasy just seems really bland to me. Also, the end of LOTR was awful IMO.

But I suggest to anyone to read "A Song of Ice an Fire". Full of political intrigue, military action, and a morale gray area. You never know exactly who the bad guys really are.

I usually stick to sci-fi and realistic stuff. I'm a big fan of many of the authors stated previously, like Orwell and Bradbury. I wished Harper Lee had written more, "To Kill a Mockingbird" was one of my favorite works of all time. Mark Haddon and Jasper Fforde are also authors I enjoy reading; I recommend "A Spot of Bother" and "The Eyre Affair".

Has anyone read The Road by Cormac McCarthy?

Amazing book, it's one of my top three along with the Godfather by Mario Puzzo, and One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Yeah, I love to read, I'd have to say my favourite author would be Haruki Murakami, he writes amazing and weird books, if you're looking for a good mindf*** I'd definitely check out some of his stuff.

I'm weird. I have to read something that honestly interests me.

I'm currently reading the Scott Pilgrim books (well, graphic novels). But before this... I tried reading the halo books, but those never hooked me into them.

Perhaps one of my favorite authors is Chuck Palahniuk.

I first saw the movie Fight Club when I was in middle school and had no idea what was going on. About 5 years later, I realized it was a book. Read it, saw the movie again, realized Chuck's genius, been hooked on him ever since.

Survivor is my fave by him, read it about 3 times. He's twisted, to say the least. Next time you go into a book store, read the first page or so of any of his books. You'll either be disgusted or hooked... or both.

maitee1
06-17-2010, 08:57 AM
That Fight Club novel was crazy good.

I'll try to read almost anything. Star Wars Expanded Universe though is my fave though.

Stephen King's Christine was the first real book I read when I was 11. I'll still read that at least once a year.

The Death Gate Cycle by Pratchett and Hicks is another good series. As well as The Belgariad and The Mallorean. When I read those consecutively along with Belgarath the Sorcerer and Polgara the Sorceress, I was sad when I finished those. I think that was the first time that has ever happened to me.

Jim Butcher is awesome too. If you haven't checked any of his stuff, you should.

And to contribute, I'm currently reading Dean Koontz The Face. Haven't really got into it yet, but it seems good so far. Very Stephen King-ish.

King can be a fun writer, especially when he writes fantasy (the Dark Tower books are brilliant) and short stories.

The Dark Tower books are incredibly imaginative, if a bit strange at times, and it seems like King tries to be edgy for the sake of being edgy at times. But they are very entertaining, and I don't think even the harshest King critic can deny that he has an amazing imagination.

The Death Gate Cycle by Pratchett and Hicks is another good series.

Weis and Hickman, if I remember correctly. :) And yes, it's a great series. One of my favourites. Better than their Dragonlance books, IMO.

I read alot of Nick Hornby, Chuck Klosterman, HP Lovecraft, Douglas Coupland (his older stuff), and anything interesting I see at the library. I've since stopped buying books (too expensive and frankly not enough room in my house anymore), and only borrow them from the library. Now I'll only buy books I really want to own. Right now I'm reading The Walking Dead graphic novels.

House of Leaves (http://www.amazon.com/House-Leaves-Mark-Z-Danielewski/dp/0375703764/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1276803168&sr=8-1) by Mark Z. Danielewski is one of my favourite books of all time. If you want a book to seriously eff you up, this one will do it.
