this is for the xbox360 version.

i have 2 gh2 controllers and the strumbars on those are very clicky.. you strum up or down and it returns to its center position quickly.

in comparison, the rockband guitar feels limp and dead, it registers strums but sometimes doesnt feel like it returns to the center position.

where i notice problems is when there are a lot of fast strums, on the gh controller its fine and i can go through but with the rockband one ill mess up after a bunch in a row. its really weird and what i think is going on is that im missing a strum because the bar doesnt come back to center position.

how are your rockband guitars, is the stumbar tight and responds to a strum nicely or does it feel sorta limp? its like the spring in the guitar is worn out or not tight/compressed.

im not sure if my guitar is broke, it works.. but doesnt feel very good.

That's how they're supposed to be... I personally hate it, especially since my strum bar now double-strums on downstrums :(

the strum bar is smooth but this is not why your guitars are double struming or missing notes. If you open your guitar you will see 2 microswitches. you should notice that the downstrum which inside will be on top is bent, if you look at the up strum you will notice a gap between the contact and the rubber pad, this is where the problem is the contact has no support behind it and after struming enough will get bent out so that it is agenst the pad, however this is a easy fix. do not loosen the screws or file the contacts or anything eles that has been posted simply take some kind of thin soft material, masking tape works best, and place it in bettween the pad and the contact, if you use tape make sure the sticky side is faceing toward the pad, about 3-4 peices of tape should do the trick. believe me it makes the guitar feel much better and your guitar will never double strum or cut out.

****This will void your warrenty**** so if you just want to get a new guitar then do not do this.

personally I did it and my guitar has worked fine sence I did it, I would strongly suggest using this fix and not anouther but only if you want to void your warranty.

The 'missing notes' issues is probably caused, as webduelist pointed out, by a bad switch mechanism with the strumbar.

However, what you're talking about here is tactile response, and I agree with you completely. The key difference between the Red Octane controller strum and the HMX Fender strum is how they 'spring' back to center. The Red Octane controllers use some form of actual tension device (spring or rubber, not sure which) to return the strum bar to 'center'. The HMX Fender has pieces of glued on packing foam. The foam is the reason you feel like the strum bar is 'limp'. It has some spring to it, but nowhere near as much as if there was an actual spring back tension mechanism.

The use of foam is probably my biggest complaint outside of the problems with the microswitches. I can understand they wanted to make a guitar that was quieter than then Red Octane ones, but the tactile response of the strum feels very poor and sometimes I catch myself looking down to see if the strum has actually returned to 'center' or not because it just doesn't 'feel' like it has. Likewise, foam loses elasticity over time (and can even dry rot) so, eventually, the foam won't provide any spring back at all. :(
