Does using the wamy bar increase your score or is it just for effects?

The whammy bar gets you more energy if you use it on one of the white held notes. It doesn't increase your score any.

Is your question about where you can take spelling lessons? wamy? Are you even trying?

Is this true? I always thought even during normal extended notes it added to your score.

It is true. It does not increase score and is just window dressing for non-white notes. The functionality is different from Guitar Hero.

I see, thank you.

Actually, the functionality is identical to Guitar Hero. It does not increase score in that game either, except in the respect that using the whammy provides you with more star power/overdrive on the appropriate sustained notes, which means more usage time for those modes when they are activated.

Then I'm much mistaken. I'm going to have re-assess my use of the whammy bar when (and if) I return to playing some of the Guitar Hero series.

Always a joy having your Overdrive activated and hitting a long energy note.

Then hit that whammy bar fast enough that your energy doesn't even drop while it's activated :D

Just to further the understanding of how it all works, the speed at which you Whammy also does not effect anything. As long as you're whammying at the set minimum speed, which is pretty slow, you will be gaining additional Energy at a set rate.

You don't even have to whammy fast. Just doing any whammy will add the same amount of boost regardless of whammy speed. When whammy-ing the rate of OD gain is the same as OD usage so your energy stays the same.

I massively overuse the whammy bar because I like to personalize the song... It may not increase the score, but it sounds cool... Except on the few songs where it makes the guitar sound sick....

I definitely throw some whammy in there although I try not to be too overbearing. I think my confusion over use in non-Star Power sections of GH must be due to a non-linear scoring algorithm for held notes. In my mind I'm almost positive it doesn't increment in a linear fashion... I'll have to go and satisfy my curiosity later today.

in guitar hero even on notes that aren't for star power it does increse your points and the faster the better (on guitar hero) just to clear things up

That's what I'm going to check, because that was always my experience.

Sorry friend, you're very wrong on this one. Points gained for held notes are a set rate in comparison to the tempo of the song. Whammying never has effected score in the histroy of Guitar Hero.

The one place where whammying has an effect is in the collection of star power/Overdrive from appropriate phrases, and again it's a set pace that keys itself off the tempo of the song. As long as you're "Activating" the gain, extra speed has no benifit.

I should have just linked this in the first place. Here's the Score Hero FAQ on scoring, it answers all your questions. This information has been confirmed a million times over.

Edit: The important thing to note is that the base value of notes has dropped to 25 in Rock Band. Also, some specifics may have changed. Personally, I've yet to see any evidence that held notes or Overdrive works differently in Rock Band, however.

We can't seem to figure out if the speed of whammy makes the gold bar grow faster. Seems sometimes slow is better than fast, then next song that's not true... Is there a 'sweet spot' ?

the hardest thing in the world is to try and convince someone that the whammy bar doesn't give you more points. Its excruciating to watch them sit and wale on the bar on every held note for no reason.

A good test is the first note of iron man. You can easily hold it until the end because you don't have to move quickly to another note or chord and you can then restart and do it with the whammy bar. The points will be exactly the same.

I mean during the sustained white notes, does the wham speed matter?

Paradox

as long as its activated(the bonus or whatever you wanna call it) it doesn't matter how fast you go after that.

i'm reading this post right now about whammy bar, that the speed changes nothing and all the others things...

if only i was reading that post before...

Because I think that im rocking my whammy bar to hard because it's broken right now :(

Damn activision.... blocking the patch for compatibility with gh3 controller (PS3)

because right now I don't have any guitar controller to play with, and I live in Canada (so i have to

wait for the "Official Release" to get a replacement) :(

I think I'll survive this
