Jam Bands!

I don't know about you, but I'd love to hear some "jam band"-type music, which would allow for excellent solos on all the instruments as the members of the band take turns showing off. Not to mention a lot of this stuff is written and performed by some of the most musically talented in the business.

I'd love to hear others ideas on songs, but here are a few I came up with off the top of my head:

Phish - Axilla, Down with Disease
Dave Matthews Band - Two Step, Tripping Billies, Too Much
Grateful Dead - Casey Jones, Shakedown Street
moe. - 32 Things, Stranger Than Fiction
Rusted Root - Send Me on My Way
Ben Harper - Burn to Shine
Dispatch - Open Up

You will get your Grateful Dead. There has not been a release date yet, but something like 18 dead songs will be in the game as DLC.

Sounds excellent... what's the source of that info?

I think this post reflects the feelings of many people out there who want to see the general line-ups for Rock Band expand beyond the typical.

I also think that the designers need to go for songs that will be fun to play for all involved and stay away from songs just because they are popular. Some of the the choices that have been made (for Rock Band and the Guitar Hero series... especially III) are great songs but basically require repetitive button smashing even on the hard and expert levels.

I really just hope they keep the downloads coming because having new stuff to play could basically extend the life of this game indefinitely.
