Hey guys, I don't mean to be rude or anything, but I would imagine that, just like guitar hero, this is the type of game that gets funner as you pick harder songs to play. As challanging as Fallout Boy, Blink182, the Killers, Modest Mouse, etc would be for someone who's just learning how to play the guitar (and even then, it doesn't take long to learn them), none of those bands have the ripping guitar solos (or for this Band Hero game, none of them have challanging vocals or supurb drumming) to really keep you entertained once you start to improve at the game.
One of the things that definately made Guitar Hero 2 more entertaining (In my humble opinion, of course) is that by the end of the game, your fingers are bleeding and your picking hand is about to fall off, and it really makes you feel like your earned it. #1 had a couple really hard ones, but for the most part, it was a walkthough. After beating GH2 on expert before I played GH1, I went through expert on GH1 only having died once in the whole game on Cowboys from Hell.
That being said, i'm gonna make a list here of shredding songs and songs that are legitimately hard to play. I also have randomly looked through lists and haven't seen any Metallica. Shame...go figure that in a game that has you playing drums, bass and guitar, no one chooses a song by a band that has rediculously hard drumming, bass and guitar. Without further adieu...
These are the songs I want to see later on in the game. I'll let the rest of you pick whatever easy amp warmers and opening licks you want.
Van Halen - Hot for Teacher (for that drum solo)
or Eruption (obvious) or Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love
AC/DC - Thunderstruck
The Darkness- I Believe in a Thing Called Love
Avenged Sevenfold - Bat Country or Unholy Con.
Def Leppard - Foolin or Armageddon It
Scorpions - Rock You Like a Hurricane
Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction
Metallica - Any of them...but I think either Master of Puppets or Wherever I May Roam would be really fun to play as a band.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home or Simple Man
Led Zeppelin - Black Dog
Silvertide - I Ain't Comin' Home
Eric Clapton - Layla
Guns 'N' Roses - November Rain
Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train
Aerosmith - Walk This Way or Same Old Song...
Journey - Any Way You Want It
Rush - Fly by Night
Kiss - Anything Really. I think most would wanna hear Rock and Roll all Night, though. I'd prefer God Gave Rock and Roll to You
Pantera - Walk
Also, maybe just for kicks throw a couple tracks in there from Yngwie Malmsteen and Micheal-Angelo Batio just to really screw up the chance of any guitarist living through a song. I think that a few Rush and Led Zeppelin songs would keep any drummer well entertained. Maybe throw in some Primus or Red Hot Chilli Peppers for you bass virtuosoes. I suppose Journey, Clapton and the Scorpions will keep all you vocalists well-entertained.
There are many more I chould think of, but this is getting excessively long.
But yeah boys and girls, for everyone's next list, try to think of how it's gonna play when you actually start the game. Nothing wrong with a couple easy songs by Fallout Boy or Blink182, but you'll be asleep by the end of the game when you realize that both of those bands have like...5 note vocal lines, 1-note bass lines and a bunch of muted power-chords for the guitar. Although i'm sure Blink would keep the drummer plenty busy ;)
And i'm out, peace and rock on!

i agree that i've seen way too many suggestions of songs that will not be that challenging, and your comparison of GH1 and GH2 is right on. It seems apparent though that your a pretty old school rock/metal guy. gotta get some new metal on there to break people's fingers:

Dragonforce

Lamb of God

Arch Enemy

Children of Bodom

Meshuggah

Chimaira

I agree that your saying that most of the songs are to easy, but at the same time, this is your ultimate setlist, not lets just find challenging songs and call it a day. Yes, challenging songs are whats needed in Rock Band, and they will get some, a good amount not even suggested. This is about the songs youd love to play, easy or not. i dont think thats really came across lol

If we're talking about killing some drummers, I'd be all for some Fear Factory, Pantera, or Strapping Young Lad.

Where's my Floyd at? Pink Floyd would a great addition. Songs like Have a Cigar and Sine on You Crazy Diamond, and Run Like Hell would be great on guitar. And the bass in tracks like Time and Money would leave me pissing myself(with exelence) for days. Not to mention, if you want a true rock-stamina test, what better way than playing a 20 min track like Echoes?

Sorry man, I love your taste in music, but I tend to disagree...I'm pretty happy that Shadows even does as much screaming as he does after having vocal chord surgery. I know the band has adopted a slightly more pop-ish sound, but Gates' guitar has maintained it's complexity (you're welcome to try playing Beast and the Harlot on the real guitar if you dispute that) and I have to admit that i'm slightly happy that the lyrics have gotten a little less Emo-sounding.

I know that City of Evil isn't Waking the Fallen, but until A7X starts singing Britney Spears covers, i'll still buy their stuff right off the shelves.

I agree about the other songs being WAYYYY too easy. And also, about Avenged Sevenfold. City of Evil compared to Waking the Fallen isn't as good. But like the last dude said, Synyster and Zacky's guitar just takes the cake. And the Rev on the drums with the ultimate bass pedal. You want a band to go crazy? Put "Burn it down" by A7X on there with the crazy fast double bass and then the awesome sounding guitar riffs. Yeah, that would be an awesome song for this game.

I feel that what makes Rock Band different though is that in Guitar Hero even if you're playing with a friend because you're only playing guitar (or guitar and bass in this case) you need things that are really challenging to make it interesting. Whereas in Rock Band it seems that even if the bass or guitar part isn't the most insane thing you've ever played it's still enjoyable because you're still interacting with a group and possibly some spectators. That's the one thing I feel people should keep in mind when suggesting songs is that whether they're challenging or not they should also (or at least some of them should) be enjoyable to listen to. However, that being said I think the most important thing is to just have a healthy mix of challenging and easier songs. Not everyone is going to get to a point where they can play songs like (for example) Green Grass and High Tides on expert. Some people out there are content to play on medium and I feel they should be represented too. Anyways I'm just crossing my fingers for Master of Puppets to be made DLC.
