I'm interested in consumer trends as related to where you buy your music.

I'm pretty sure we had a thread with the EXACT same title as this one not too long ago.

P2P isn't the only way to "pirate" music. ;)

iTunes or some music relator (FYE, Empire Records, etc.)

Most of the music I listen to isn't even mine for the most part. My parents and sisters have bought a heck of a lot of music over the years. Countless bands and countless albums. You got your Rolling Stones to your Yeah Yeah Yeahs to your Dead Kennedys to your Queen to your Weezer all in the same place. Its weird in an awesome way. Found this The Doors live in Pittsburgh DVD the other day. So cool.

Torrents ARE p2p! I was referring to direct downloads.

i had to vote P2P/torrents since you didn't include an option for those of us who buy directly from bands/labels.

That fits under p2p. It also fits under "fills my computer with malware" and "horrible idea."

I get my music from all of those sources pretty often, but let's just say I get music from less-than legal sources most often. (not P2P though, usually direct downloads)

I've been getting all my recent music from my ladyfriend's CD collection.

She has really good taste.

I 1st download 4-6 songs of an artist if I was previously unfamiliar with said artist...then if I like the music I go out and but the CD/album/vinyl wherever I can find it :D

Visible problems with your computer are far from the only thing malware can accomplish. It could be keylogging you, turning your computer into a "zombie," run all sorts of daemons that can be doing virtually anything (in addition to chewing up your memory and slowing down your computer), or simply sending your activity and web history logs to companies that gather personal information.

Visible problems are rarely the first thing that happens when you've been infected.
