I know that I might get flamed for this cause of the uproar from the GH2 DLC pricing.

I think that Rock Band should be sold as Cheap as possible!! This will help with getting the game out. Then you should use the DLC to make your money off the game.

Look at that Steel Battalion the game was $200 and I have never meet anyone who has played it.

You overlooked one thing there. RB is $200 for the whole shooting match. However, you might only want to play the game as a guitarist, or just be the drummer. In which case you can buy the game and one peripheral at half the price.

And of course you always have the option of added another peripheral at a later date to keep your interest in the game.

DLC should not cost more per song that the original game, otherwise why buy it? Just wait for a new game as it is better value.

Well, we think its $200, and thats the slated price Gamestop is saying (I reserved mine yesterday). Did this Steel Batallion game get as much publicity, because I have never even heard of it. Rock Band was all up in the E3 coverage, 360Updates.com is always sayin something about it...I think its Rock Band's publicity that is going to help it sell a lot. I forgot who it was...may have been Peter Moore...but someone said something to the effect of if the game is top quality the gamers will find ways to purchase it.

They said they want it to be like "the itunes of rock music games"
So i think the songs should be fairly cheap

650 points for 4 songs (on XBOX LIVE) is kinda ridiculous.

But, Rock Band seems to be indicating that they will release individual songs, rather than song packs (unless noted as an album)

So, even though many may think I'm crazy...

Individual songs - between 80 - 100 points each.

Albums - 800 points.

Any thoughts?

I have a better idea. I think they should give away the game, the instruments, and the DLC for free as a loss leader. Then they can make their money back on Google Ads. Or donations for street performances. Or whatever. I won't really care at that point because I'll have the game, the instruments, and the DLC.

That would never happen.

Sorry that I have to clarify this: I was joking.

They are going to try to make it as cheap as possible, they're not out to rip you off.

What I don't get is that if you preorder the game, and you just want the guitar, it will cost 140 dollars plus tax. Guitar Hero 2's package was only 90 bucks. What's the deal with that?

I was first to preorder it at my Gamestop.

Personally I have always had good luck getting things at Circuit City even without preordering. I got GH2 the day -before- it was officially released because they screwed up the online ordering and let you do an in-store pickup, even though they really meant to just let you order it online the day before it was released so you could have it shipped to you by the next day.

No steel battalion didn't get practically any publicity. My friends have played it, I REALLY wanted to (the controller was amazing!!!) but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Steel battalion lacked publicity but i believe the main reason for that was the pricing. It was way to expensive. A friend bought it and played for a couple of weeks then re sold it over e-bay. He said it wasnt worth the money. it was a fun game but way too expensive. I am afraid Rock Band will end up the same way. 200 is way too much. And believe there were communities for steel battalion saying they would pay whatever the price for the game when it comes out. However, in the end the game failed because of the price.

I will probably not buy RB if the price is over 200. Even though it seems like a kickass game just like I want it. But a game isnt worth that much. Its still a game and you will get bored with it.

It is an unfair comparison to say buying RB is equivilent to buying Steel Battalion, as SB required that full $200 package to play, while Rock Band does not.

Seems like the marketing department has it's work cut out for them, as people can't seem to grasp the concept that unless they've grown 2 extra sets of arms, they don't need to have the entire set..
