View Full Version : What Are The Strangest Songs You Have Heard In Public Places?

Inspired by a few posts in the Randomly Crap Out Your Opinion thread, I thought it would be interesting to discuss some of the oddest, funniest, and/or most amusing songs we have heard in public - grocery stores, restaurants, and other various shops are fair game.

I think the two weirdest songs I have heard in public would be The White Stripes' Blue Orchid at a grocery store and Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up at pretty much every place I go. It's kind of amusing to walk into a diner and get rickrolled the moment you walk in.

Copy + paste.

A few years ago (I want to say I was in 3rd grade), I went to a persons birthday party at a skating place. I have absolutely no memory of what they normally played, but I do remember "Bodies" by Drowning Pool being played, and a good number of parents clearing out.

Was funny.

Since when was Slipknot rare to hear in Hot Topic?

The Smiths was the weird part.

well, when i was working at a chain record store in west tennessee i orchestrated a weekend where we played the entire merzbox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merzbox).

unfortunately, my rule that the volume couldn't be decreased was not followed by anyone. :(

Everyday during lunch the ASB plays music over the loudspeakers and it's usually just radio rock, mainstream rap and hip hop and pop rock. One day they played Bohemian Rhapsody and Santeria consecutively. It's good to know that someone in ASB has good taste.

lolmassage I could make a joke here, but it would be in bad taste

The Smiths was the weird part.

That doesn't surprise me. The Smiths are seen as "cool" to listen to by the Hot Topic crowd. The few times I've been to Hot Topic, I've seen quite the abundance of Smiths shirts and merch.

Also, to actually add to the topic, I can't remember any specific instances right now, but I can't tell you how many times I've stuck around in a record store for just a few extra minutes because a song I liked came up just as I was leaving.

Wait, I do remember something, actually. I heard the entirety of Hot Rats being played at my local coffee shop. It was OMGWTFAWESOME

Harvester of Sorrow at Comiskey Park. Thank god for Konerko not picking a crappy and/or generic batting song.

Discipline (NIN) at the same place.

Rush, Hendrix, etc. in Jimmy Johns, they use Pandora at my local one.

Metal at my gym. They're usually required to play Top 20 hits, but one day, the owner was gone and the workers got sick of it.

Also, I was on my school bus a few months ago, Q101 was on. I was surprised to hear Tool on the radio. Tool may be extremely overrated, but when the standards shift so strongly to the radio, hearing Tool is a godsend.

Are you saying Bohemian Rhapsody and Santeria aren't radio rock?

But I hear "Never Gonna Give You Up" at a lot of places, its kinda weird. Maybe I should be used to it now.

I'm saying that it's not something that most teens at my school would listen to. What I meant was modern radio rock.

This isn't too weird, but I remember once I heard Won't Get Fooled Again at a restaurant. After the synth break, I joined Roger on the "YEEAAHHHHHHH" so loudly the whole place turned their heads. 'Twas awesome.

I was at Gamestop looking for a new headset and controller for my xbox and I heard "A Little Piece of Heaven" by Avenged Sevenfold

Due to the popularity of Rythym games and that fact that Avenged Sevenfold is put in hard tiers in said games, many in the video game crowd have become Avenged Sevenfold fan boys. That's not surprising at all.

That infernal song is quite possibly the biggest insult to Roddenbury's vision ever. They should have just stuck to an orchaestral theme.

I also have two more to add: Fishbone's "Party At Ground Zero" and Roxy Music's "More Than This" at a head shop.

I was at a Barnes & Noble the other day, and they were playing what seemed to be a collection of songs by classic rock bands played in an instrumental, celtic strings style. First there was "Who Wants to Live Forever" by Queen, followed by "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC.

Nope, it happened. It was like 2:30 though, nobody was there at that time, the only people there at that hour were; two senior citizens across the room that probably couldn't here it, the TGI Friday's staff, and my friend and I. So the only people that would have probably been offended by it, didn't even seem to notice.

I'd like to ask the same question.
My radio stations play Tool ALL the time around here. Basically the only people I know that listen to Tool listen to the radio.

But An A Day to Remember song was playing at my Book and music exchange a month or two ago.

Every single time I go to the Orthodontist's office, I hear "Don't Forget Me when I'm Gone" by Glass Tiger (That's actually the fault of the radio station they listen; that song is quite overplayed)

I also remember hearing "Fix You" by Coldplay in Church (Choir sang it).
