Question about mic and drums....

So I'm having a little problem with the drums and mic. I'm not sure if it's lag or not but this might be a calibration issue. When I'm singing or using the drums, I have to hit the drums or sing the notes early, otherwise it will say I missed the note or I'm off on the timing of the words. I tried to manually edit the calibration on my game, but that just screws up the guitar parts. I have a 52" rear projection TV and I tried the rear projection setting but that doesn't help either. Anyone have any ideas?

I did a search but there wasn't an answer for my question. All of those answers had to do with lag between the sound and the video. The doesn't have anything to do with the sound, it is all about the timing of the notes.
