I recently had rock band hooked up to my 720p rear projection set, but I have now moved it to my 1080p Sharp LC42d64u. I have it hooked up through hdmi, and have it set to automatic detection of the resolution signal. My tv is on full screen but when I play rock band I have to set it to zoom because there is a small black box around the outside of the rock band picture so it doesn't fill the screen. Why is this happening?

Go into options, then calibrate, and check off the 'Video Overscan' option. Sounds like your TV isn't quite standard as far as resolution goes, so RB running natively doesn't fill the entire screen. Enabling Overscan simply expands the picture so that a few pixels are cut off on every side to ensure that the screen is covered. Most television stations do this automatically and you just never know.

It only happens with rock band which is weird. My TV is standard on the resolution, 1920 x 1080.

Not sure what to tell ya, if your TV is on 'Just Scan' and your RB isn't set to overscan, and it's not filling up the entire screen, your TV isn't displaying at true 1080p. Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it, just means it displays a few more lines than spec, a lot of TVs do this.
