Guitar Hero III support on Rock Band for PS3

Hello everyone,

I've been researching this issue and I have read alot of articles where a thread came out on 12/4 that a patch was coming out to address this issue. However, in my research it looks like Harmonics patch is going to address Rock Band guitar working on Guitar Hero III but not the reverse. According to the following article: http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3164792, Red Octance Haung states that they have more important things to address during Christmass than a patch to address compatibility. So, I'm kind of confused here. Is there a patch, and if there is, can someone say for sure what its suppose to address. I'm concern with a Guitar Hero III guitar working on Rock Band.

Sean will post when there's news. Try search and you'll find a 50 something page thread about this very issue.

The Short-Short version. HMX has made the patch and given it to Sony over a week ago. Sony has yet to distribute said patch. This leads to all kinds of speculation, name calling, and general societal disarray.

(edit) erk. I should read better, sorry. Red Octane makes peripherals, I'm sure they aren't interested in letting other ones work.

It is up to Red Octane to offer a patch for GH3 to accept RB guitar controller. Not Harmonix. They cannot patch a game that isn't theirs...

PS3 RB update seems to have hit a bump but Harmonix is working on getting the patch out. They do want you to be able to use your GH3 Guitar controller with RB.

Rumor is that Red Octane is trying to to limit their Guitar's use to only GH.

Besides looking a lot more fun, this is the kind of stuff that made me decide to get RockBand over Guitar Hero III. Seems Activision is more intereted in $$$ than you having fun.

Since I got Rock Band, my LP has been collecting dust.

And after all this BS, I will only dust it off if a patch is released to use the LP for RB. Even if RO/Activision oks the patch, there is no way in hell I am ever going to buy another LP for multiplayer GH3. Their greed has really left a sour taste in my mouth.

Sadly, there will be no patch to GH3 to allow the Rock Band strat to work. If you'll notice when you start GH3, on the loading screen with the "fine print" filling the right hand side of the screen, towards the end, you will read that it is a violation of your license for GH3 to use any controller(s) other than a Red Octane provided controller or the standard system controller.

The owners of the GH franchise will not be opening the game to other controllers and will continue (as they have in the past) to actively block other controllers from working.

That's the thing; taking advantage of the desire to use their controller in another game can only mean more money for them, not less. Already I know of people here on this forum who've returned their GH3 copy because of their behaviour, and I'm ready to buy one as soon as it's compatible.

It seems, they're more motivated out of spite for their 'opponent' than making a few extra bucks and doing the right thing by their customers.
