One instrument per character?

My family just got Rock Band. We made a band and all made characters - it was a blast. Later a couple of us wanted to play different instruments and couldn't figure out how to do it with our existing band members. It wanted us to make new rockers. I looked and didn't see anything saying you couldn't play more than one instrument per character, but I also can't seem to figure out how to do it.

I'm likely just being lame, so I figured I'd ask. Are the characters too dumb to know more than one instrument or am I just to dumb to figure out how to do it? :p

The characters in the game are too stupid to play more than one instrument.

Extremely unrealistic, but I'm sure they have their reasons (profiles, leaderboards with the Solo Tour and whatnot).

Anyway, have fun with making different characters for yourselves. I've got 3 or 4, plus 3-4 others already made for when friends come by. You can even make them all look pretty much the same if you want, but that is kinda boring so go crazy and have fun.
