Hello friends,
Lately I have been listening to Black Moth Super Rainbow and MGMT a lot and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for other good new psychedelic bands.

For reference:

MGMT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9GH-yvPHSY&fmt=18

Please feel free to suggest or discuss any Neo-Psychedelia bands in this thread.

i assume you want stuff mostly rooted in rock music? try the following...

comets on fire, dungen, residual echoes, six organs of admittance, blues control, howlin' rain, endless boogie, major stars, heavy winged, and the early years.

i'd add in Espers as well, if you're into folk oriented psychedelic music.

i'll second this... throw in skygreen leopards, wooden wand, and flying canyon while you're at it! :)

Stuff like the Black Angels, Black Mountain, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Primal Scream, The Charlatans (UK), BRMC etc. is cool, even though I'm not sure if I'd call some of these bands psychedelic myself.

Also, is it just me, or do a lot of bands labeled under the neo-psychedelia movement have a name starting with "Black"?

between my love for black/doom metal and psychedelic music it's literally headache-inducing to go through a large folder of mp3's and remember who is who...

"uh, so is black math horseman a psych band or a metal band? i forgot... let me have a quick listen..."

I'm open to suggestions in other genres. I really like psychedelic pop. I also enjoy folk, blues, reggae, jazz, electronic music etc. So I'll listen to anything you suggest and let you know.

I already enjoy Dungen, Comets on Fire, and Howlin' Rain so you were on track there.

And the other bands you recommended all sound pretty sweet.

Thanks

I have two fairly new Swedish bands to recommend. One is Introduction which recently released their debut album 'Santa sets sail for Saturn'. A really cool band, psychedelic and groovy with very creative melodies. The same goes for Dungen, the only, perhaps, negative thing about Dungen is that they sing in Swedish, but i think that i something one can overcome pretty easily since the music is so great. Another really cool American band is Big Elf, they're a little more known i think.
You can listen to a bunch of their songs on last fm.

Neo-psychodelia, neo-neo psychodelia, or neo-neo-neo psychodelia? There's 4 waves now I think. Elf Power. Elf Power.

I think we're using them as synonyms now. :) Then again, if you ask me what the best neo-psychodelia band that ever lived was, my answer will be the Bangles.

QFT. Black Mountain is probably my favorite neo-psychedelic band overall. Well, the Black Angels and several others might edge them out slightly, but oh well.
