Guitar and drums not working???

Just got home with my brand spanking new Rock band 2 kit for 360. I put the batteries in the drums, they don't turn on. I put batteries in the guitar and it doesn't turn on either. I tried three different sets of batteries. Am i missing something here, or was I unlucky enough to get two bad peripherals in one kit. I haven't even tried the mic, lol.

so when you press and hold the xbox guide buttons they dont turn on? if thats the case you will need to exchange them or do an RMA

Yes, when i hold down the xbox guide button neither turn on. I'm still kinda shocked that both seem to be broken units. I should be able to exchange the kit for a new one from where it was purchased. Thanks for the reply.
