View Full Version : Anyone else playing Band World Tour mode by themselves?

When I first got this game, I got my girlfriend to play a little bit of it with me but she lost interest in it pretty quickly... she hates video games (she refers to my 360 as the "mistress" of the house, and that I love it more than I love her... anyway...). I have a few friends who have played guitar hero but they only stick to medium and can't do anything harder than that. I love this game and wanted to get more of BWT mode finished so I pulled out the mic and played guitar myself.

It was good for a while but then I hit the fan cap on medium and so I've cranked it up to expert. My goal is to get as many achievements as possible and surpass 1 million fans. I'm at about 860,000. I've been playing bass guitar and vocals both on expert. Some of the songs are really hard, others are really easy... I plan on going back to medium after I've hit 1,000,000 fans to clear out most of the gigs, playing on hard only if the gig requires it.

I've found that the "make a setlist" gigs are the easiest gigs to play on expert... just pick easy songs like Creed, Dani California, In Bloom, stuff like that... or just songs where you know the tune and don't even need to look up at the lyrics. And of course I don't sing, I just use the humming trick... it's really the only way to beat the vocal career on expert anyway.

Anyone else doing anything like this? I wish they just made a single player option for BWT but oh well. Challenges are fun too.

I'm doing it but only on medium. At least for now. I suck on vocals so i dont think i could do hard. Also, i heard once you go beyond the fan cap, you cant go back to a lower difficulty. So you might not be able to play on medium again.

And it's funny but Dani CA and In Bloom I find to be some of the hardest songs. To sing at least.

Not true. Depending on who I'm playing with, I jump between hard, medium and easy all the time.

Some gigs are limited by difficulty, but that's it.

When I have some downtime I've been soloing BWT. I don't have any friends that are consistent enough to play with. I'm kinda scared when I hit the 600,000 cap what's going to happen. The highest I've been able to do was Expert Guitar / Hard Singing for most songs. I can only do Expert / Expert on like 3 songs, and there are 64 on my game. Right now I'm only at 250ish stars and 420000 fans or something, so I might just run through as many venues as possible on Medium to unlock the endlist setlist, and hopefully I'll find someone to Bass guitar it up for me for 6 hours >_>

ya i just started BWT by myself this weekend, med vox and med guitar, I found a nice mic stand at my local pawn shop, Im stuck on green grass and high tides on expert and 3&7's Drums on Hard, so far med bwt is pretty cool, ive got an ok voice but its tough to read the words and pay attention to the guitar parts ,, also you can beat box the tamborine or cowbell pars on the mic

Not true! I sing every song if I know the words to it.

I'd like to play an instrument while singing, but it's not my priority right now. First I'm getting all, or as many as possible, songs with gold stars. Then I'd like to play the guitar and have a one-woman band going.

That's good to hear. I was afraid that if i played a couple gigs on hard to unlock other stages i'd be stuck playing on that difficulty forever.

I spent a day playing guitar and singing both on hard getting through the band world tour mode and found it a lot of fun. It's pretty tugh when you get to a song you don't know, but I've managed to not fail a song yet!

Yeah, I've got myself a little one-woman band for BWT. I was doing it with vocals and guitar both on Hard, but got stuck failing constantly when it gave me Suffragette City, so I bumped the vocals down to Medium. Suppose I'll have to go back up to Hard once I hit the fan cap, but hopefully by then I'll know the songs a little better, eh?

I'm doing it to now that I've got a mic stand. Doing as much as possible on hard/hard or expert/hard (guitar/vox) but some I need to drop back down to get through comfortably. It's definitely an extra fun layer to the game. ;)

Ooh, interesting. Did you purchase this mic stand yourself? If so, how much did it cost? I'm looking into one for myself for the future.

I did, I did. I got the LoDuca stand that's listed on Best Buy for just a shade under $30. It has a nice boom on it which makes it ideal for using with the drums as well.

The only catch is that the clutch grip for the Rock Band microphone is only *just* big enough to grasp it. It has rubber on the grip parts as well so it won't damage your microphone.

I'm happy with it so far. :)

Hope you're feeling better Manda!

Wonderful, I was hoping they were under $50. And yes, I am! I have a bit of a cough still, but my throat feels a lot better today. Not to mention my sinuses are cleared to perfection =D I'm hoping I'll be good as new tomorrow (and by tomorrow I mean later today).

I am thinking of giving this a try. I'll probably hang the mic from my ceiling fan or something while I play guitar......lol.

Thats what I do, I feel it more dramatic & fun than using this boring mic stand.

I had real trouble finding a microphone clamp big enough to fit the mic over here, went to about 4 or 5 music shops and eventually fond one that had the rubber clamp which works great. I asked him about the clamp style ones and he said that the spring goes on them eventually and that the rubber ones are better. He was probably just trying to make a sale, but the rubber one works great, you can whip out the mic real easy for when you want to showboat a bit!

It may just be the case that he knew what he knew a lot about his job and was trying to help get you a good product that you'd be happy with, I think if he was trying to get a sale out of you he would try and push things on you that you weren't looking for or didn't need.

Yeah well he seemed to know what he was talking about alright, and the rubber clamp works great. He gave me a handy tip for it too in case it was too tight, soak it in hot water and it'll loosen it right up. He did try and sell me three magic beans too though, so I'm still not sure :P It was embarrassing walkign around music stores looking for the anti-vibe drumsticks and they started asking me what weight I used etc. etc. and I didn't have a clue, and didn't want to say "Oh they're for Rock Band" because a couple of weeks ago the guy in the shop I get my guitars and stuff from had a big old rant at me about Guitar Hero!

Weaksauce. I have never just hummed, I always sing the actual words. Humming is lame.

Despite the fact that it's pretty easy to do (especially drums and singing, surprisingly), I have been able to resist cheating on BWT. The game kinda pushes me to call up my friends and get them over. Who would've thought a game would make me rectify my anti-social behavior?

It's chick, not dude, lol. And although I probably won't be getting RockBand for the 360, I will definitely be getting a 360 in the future. In fact, I mentioned getting RockBand when we bought a 360 and got a very interesting leer from my man, so I don't think it's gonna happen.

As much as I absolutly am addicted to Rock Band, 3 Things about this game that drive me absolutly crazy are:

1) Quality of Instruments (If I knew an extra 30 dollars would ensure that my drum rolls are accurately read, then a 200 dollar set would nto of deterred me anymore than 170 didnt)

2) There should be an option to view what lobbies players are waiting in during Xbox Live (or whatever other version of Rock Band) Online Play to see at least if any players ware waiting to play a certain game. (Quick example, lets say Im waiting for a Tug of War Expert Guitar, but I see someone wants a medium score duel with drums, I can just switch instruments and know I have an opponent waiting instead of watching 'searching' go on without knowing if anyone is even looking to play at my game type/instrument/or difficulty.

And the reason i'm adding to this topic...

3) No Single Player / Online Multiplayer Band World Tour!

Now after much thinking, I can see why the decision was made for no Single Player BWT. (Even though I think the more fair trade off would of been the inclusion of a Solo Bass Tour)

But for me to not be able to connect to my 3 real life friends who own copies of Rock Band, and who we discussed for weeks about how much fun it's goign to be to create a Band together, is where I feel harmonix "Dropped the Ball" in Rock Band.

Dont get me wrong. This game is insanely fun and addictive both off-line and online in it's various modes. And when I join my friends for Band Quick Play On-line we still have lots of good times on top of that.

But THE draw to us for this game as a group of friends was to be able to have our own personal band, if you get what I'm saying. Having our own band name, all having our characters resemble a unit of a band as opposed to four random characters, and just that overall sense of, we're accomplishing goals as a group together, as opposed to just playing song after song. To me the best way to characterize it is like having a real band, and just playting for yourselves in the garage. Yeah your playing, and its a lot of fun and yoru enjoying it, but you're not progressing as opposed to going out and performing for fans (i.e. playing different gigs and different size sets in BWT).

I am probably in the minority, but if it took them to raise the price of Rock band to the 200+ Range, and them pushing back the release into February to ensure the three issues I have with this game were not that, then I would be all for it. Because this is without question the best game I have purchased in years. And I want to support Harmonix's efforts in making such a great title. Just let my instruments work, and let me and my friends play the endless setlist online and I'de literally be handing you all my money with a big smile on my face.

You're on the right path, now keep yoru hands on the steering wheel and straighten the little things out :)

There was a mic stand sitting in the back office at my work for a few months. After I got Rock Band I asked my manager about it. He said "take it." So I did. I've been doing BWT on medium/medium when I have time, which isn't very often anymore, but I haven't hit the medium fan cap yet. My gf is learning how to play bass in the game, which is good, because it gives me more time to play. It's actually pretty fun to play guitar and do vocals while she plays bass. i just need a drummer now!

Oh yeah, and the reason I was posting here. The mic clip that was on the mic stand when I got it wouldn't hold the RB mic. Well after fiddling with it for a while, I got it to hold the mic from the bottom. The plastic has stretched out enough now that it holds the mic the way it's supposed to with no problem.

I've got 2 solo bands, one for guitar/vocals (Reach for the Skyler), and one for drums/vocals (Rital-out). Just finished the Hall of Fame on the guitar/vocals on Expert/Expert difficulty today. Soon, I'll shoot for the solo Platinum Artist achievement.

I found vocals to be easy up to Hard (including hard) difficulty. Expert is nasty .... I can ace dead or alive on hard, but the part where you yell "____ yeah!" on expert kills the crowd instantly ... can't figure out how to yell "yeah" for the live of me... HAHA :D

Just started a band on guitar and vocals. I call it Dancing Mad (cudos if you know the reference). I l knew it would hard to do this, but dang! I put vocals down to hard so I wouldn't focus so much on them and guitar on medium so I didn't overstress myself. It's pretty fun, and I might up the difficulty soon if I keep up these 95%+ scores.

If you're doing Vox/Guitar like I do for BWT, you can make this pathetic mic stand:

Use some duct tape and tape one or two of the drum pipes to a chair and tape the mic to the end of the pipe. Doesn't look flashy but I got through the endless setlist with it so there shouldn't be a problem, unless someone wants to drum. They could still use the tabletop mode though.

Pfff, you'll be owning us in no time. I ratcheted up the difficulty for a few songs last night. Did a two set list on Expert guitar/Expert vocals ("Don't Fear the Reaper" and "Creep") and four starred them both. I was pretty excited. :)

Well, so far I'm doing really well on the vocals, but the guitar not so much. I haven't been playing guitar solo much at all and I need to listen to the beat of the song to play well. And when at the same time I'm singing and trying not to go off pitch, it's hard. But the first 5-6 songs I did 5* so I'm happy. Perhaps what I'll do is play solo guitar some more (on hard, I can't play expert yet) to get a feel for every song.

You'll get it down I've no doubt. My trouble is not being familiar enough with the lyrics and pitch changes in some of the songs. Songs that I know from listening to outside the game tend to be easier because I can focus all of my attention on the guitar note chart.

P.S. Way to go last night with the three of us gold starring Cherub Rock together! :D

I started up my own solo BWT band a few days ago, Flushable Cardboard, and I'm having a blast. Playing vocals/guitar on hard/hard for the most part, unless it's a random setlist then I'll drop the vocals down to medium just in case it's one of the DLC songs that I haven't figured out the words/melody for quite yet. I really need to get through my vocal solo career so I can learn all these songs well enough to play them on hard, cause I think I could stick w/ that pretty much all the way through BWT, then hopefully be good enough to crank it up to expert/expert. Can't wait to see how far I can get through it...whether I can actually do my hall of fame performance solo and possibly, someday, the endless setlist. I gotta say, I 100% agree w/ their choice to omit solo BWT at this point. Online BWT still would have been nice, but I can see now that it would've been pretty lame to allow solo BWT. It just wouldn't feel right.

I agree. You really need to have two instruments for the risk-reward system to work. With a full band, especially, there will always be that one song that everyone finds hard, and that's what makes the mode so hard.

I just bumped my solo (vocals and guitar/bass) from Hard/Hard to Expert/Expert last night. I almost got stuck on Gimme Shelter, but was able to play the guitar well enough to bail out the vocals when they failed, and learned when I needed to look at the vocals and let my fingers go on auto-pilot. Probably the most fun I've had after beating a song in a while.

Impressive. That's one of the hardest songs for me to sing. Expert/Expert would kick my ass. I have to bail out my vocals with guitar on Expert/Hard and even then it's a struggle. Those backing vocals make it hard enough when I'm focused on it in solo vocals without having to pay attention to the guitar part...

OMG After you left I was playing with system_surge and posa and we got gold stars on Dani California, Tom Sawyer, Flirtin' With Disaster, I Think I'm Paranoid, Main Offender, Learn to Fly, and Welcome Home! We still needed an extra guitarist too, I would have invited you if I were leader. I also have digital photo evidence (finally found batteries) and will put them up once I figure out how to get them on my laptop, there's no card slot and my usb adapter is missing...
