View Full Version : Way to clean drumsticks?

The pair I got with the game doesn't have much of a finish to them. They are dull, sort of soft, and without any logos. It's been a few weeks now and the ends where I hold them are getting sort of grimy. Darker and more "green" in color. Any ideas if there is some sort of cleaner I could use without damaging the sticks?

To be honest, most drummers don't clean sticks. I suppose a standard wood cleaner might work, but for the most part... my experience as a marching band snare drummer and set drummer in various bands... just tossed em' and got a new pair.

Maybe try some furniture cleaner? Don't know if that's soften the wood and make em' more prone to break or not... but then again, broken sticks are a pretty common thing when playing real drums. Don't recall ever having a pair of sticks for more than a week.

Another think you might try... electrical tape or at a music store stick-tape.

Yeah, mine are getting kinda nasty too. I'll probably buy those Best Buy ones once my wood ones are too embarrassing to have anyone else play with them.

Go online or to your local music shop and buy a new pair for like $10

Inclined to agree with most others here about buying new sticks--according to your budget, of course. Even though we haven't opened the game yet we picked up a pair of "real" sticks with a much easier finish on the hands and nylon tips for about $8. They come cheaper as well as a lot more expensive...

the sticks that come with Rock Band are "real" sticks. The list of professional drummers who swear by "Ludwig" drumsticks is extensive.

I was very impressed when I opened up my copy and saw a decent pair of sticks.

When I said "real" I was actually referring to the difference between sticks bought out of a music store versus those in the Best Buy-style Rock Band packaging which, if other things on the Rock Band store are anything to go by, are quite expensive for what you may receive...

The included sticks work fine, I'm sure. We were just looking for something with a bit smoother finish so my wife could drum for longer periods...

Didn't want to split hairs with you friend :)

You should certainly purchase whatever you're most comfortable with.

I just don't want people getting the idea that they are somehow getting something that is abnormal.

The sticks that come with the game are the same kind of sticks most people who play real drums would be used to playing with. The actual brand and type of sticks are extremely popular (minus the Rock Band logo) in the drumming world.

I'm sure many people will buy different sticks, but anyone reading this who hasn't used them yet might get the wrong idea if they are lead to believe that somehow the bundled sticks are low quality, which they aren't.

Just get some new ones.. I don't really care for the Rock Band ones so I got some 5A Washburn ones (cheap, but it works). They feel alot better than the RB ones do.

are you sure the bundled sticks are really retail packaged quality ludwig sticks, and not just crap stamped ludwig? cuz honestly even though im not a drummer, ive held various brands of sticks to mess around with prior to the game, and they all felt much more solid and finished better than what came with the bundle.

Vic Firth sticks are pretty much the way to go. They're entry level for decent sticks (in the 7-10 dollar range a pair), and you'll have a much greater variety as to how thick and long they are (that came out dirtier than expected). Also, you can pick up some nylons if you prefer that to wooden tipped.

I have no clue what you mean about "solid" they are wooden sticks..

As far as the finish on them goes... it's a natural finish. Comparing them to some other sticks I have lying around... a pair of Vics seem to be a bit smoother. I got a few pairs that I can no longer tell who made them, but they feel pretty much the same.

So.. while I don't have an immediately identifiable pair of Ludwigs laying around, I can say that yes.. they seem to be perfectly normal Ludwigs.
