Well ive noticed that the History of Rock forums have been pretty slow so I decided to make a new topic. Before you post make sure you understand that by "best" I mean in your own opinion and if you don't agree with someone dont just say "that band sucks."
Who are the best bands from each Decade? You can interperate the question as when the band was formed or when they got famous. Also, you can choose as many or as few decades as you would like.
For Me:
1940s- B.B. King
1950s- Chuck Berry
1960s- Pink Floyd
1970s- Led Zeppelin
1980s- Metallica
1990s- Nirvana
2000s- Rose Hill Drive

I don't know, I'm torn between Miles and Coltrane. Blue Train is one of my favorite albums ever, but with Miles there probably wouldn't be Coltrane as we know him.
Yea I'll go with Miles Davis

So i'm not gonna go with 'best' in the conventional sense, i'm gonna go with influential.
1940: Huddie 'Lead Belly' Ledbetter
1950: Chester Arthur 'Howlin wolf' Burnett ( i put this here, because howlin wolf had influenced many of the bands of the british invasion, rolling stones, cream blah blah blah)
1960: The Beatles. Though not Sgt. peppers like everyone wants to think, i'd say Revolver. A close second would be the beach boys Good Vibration.
1970: The Velvet Underground. They started the punk movement of the late 70's and 80's i dare you to defy me.
1980: Michael Jackson. It kills me to not put a rock and roller in this but Thriller set the bar that would be the business. Besides if it weren't for all of Michaels videos and videos like it we wouldn't have the "alternative" movement
1990: Nirvana. But really there is too many to mention here, after all we are talkign about an entire decade after all, especially after the 70's it becomes harder and harder to say one as the most influential.
2000: System of a Down. I ran out of ideas for this, i dont like a lot of 'recent rock'. I suppose Musically i could say The Mars Volta, but only Deloused in the Comatorium. After that they start to sound too much like pink floyd or Emmerson Lake and Palmer and i Dislike that 'Prog/ art/ classical rock'

90s : Sure Nirvana was great and important, I love it, but what will live in history is Radiohead and the perfect in every sense OK Computer. At least to me, that was the most important album of the decade. Even today I get goosebumps when I listen to it.

I'm not going to pretend I know music from before the 60's. I'm not about to give my age, but I'm still in high school.

70's- The Clash
80's- Guns N' Roses
90's- Nirvana (This is pretty much the only one that only an idiot would argue against. Even Radiohead was nowhere near as good or influential, even though I do love them.)

Black Sabbath on the 70s and System of a down for the current era and 90s.
Even though they werent famous or popular back in the 90s i think most of thier best stuff was back then.
