View Full Version : Corrupt Save File... WTF?

I have Rock Band 2 for Wii and everything had been going smooth for the game. I experienced no problems with this game until today. After the short intro movie, it has the usual ok blah blah then it says loading the saved file and I press OK. It starts loading, then it says that the file cannot be loaded because of a Corrupt Save File. I had to continue without loading and then when refreshing add-on content, a pop-up says that my DLC cannot be loaded. WTF!? I go ingame to find that all my characters and band have all been deleted. It's as though i just started this game. I bought this at Christmas.
I checked my Wii memory and everything looked Ok. The only thing I found suspicious was that i couldn't back up my RB2 data on my SD Card and I could only erase it. I was dumb enough to not back up my RB2 Data on my SD Card and now RB2 sux for me!
Can anyone take the time to help a poor man?

i think you turned of the system or accidentaly removed you sd card when it was saving that mainly the biggest reason people get corrupt files in their games

I wonder if anyone can help. My situation is very similar to the OP's. Been playing RB2 since December without any issues. Then on roughly the same day as the OP, I got the dreaded corrupt save file. I re-dl'ed all of my DLC, created new characters, and re-started the WT. Now several days later, the situation has recurred. At no time in either situation was the power shut off, the SD card removed, or the game frozen. In examining the Wii memory and the SD card, the DLC seems to still be there, but the game does not see it. The game itself is in the Wii memory, but only takes up 1 block.
Can anyone suggest something so that I can avoid this happening again. There really isn't much incentive to go through the whole process again (DLC, characters, and the WT) if the situation is going to keep repeating.
Thanks.

Funny, the exact same thing just happened to me today. I bought my game at Christmas time as well and I'm at a loss as to what I should do.

Same here. Bought it at Christmas, no issues until now. DL still there, band and characters are gone. Is this an issue that happens more than once? If so, I don't see the fun in going through the WT again.
Maybe we should pm a HMX member. Probably HMXHenry, he seems to work with the Wii users more than HMXSean.
Also, I confirm that it's not a Wii issue. I played Metroid Prime 3 with no problems.

this same thing happened to me a couple days ago, except it doesnt even tell me i have a corrupt save. it just crashes at the refreshing addon content screen. i dont really want to delete my save, just in case it is somehow not the problem.

Well, that sucks for all of you (not being sarcastic). I had my game since christmas as well, and it did corrupt once a few months ago. Luckily I found a way around it by manually saving (it overwrites the corrupted file).
If you have less than 300 blocks in your internal memory, it increases the risk of getting a corrupt save.
Hopefully someone finds this helpful.
Oh and don't feel stupid about the RB2 data not being able to copy to the SD card, you can't anyway. Also make sure you back out all the way to the Rock Band 2 title screen before you back out to the Wii menu.

I also had this problem, same as the OP. Mine occurred a couple of weeks ago. Got the disc for Father's Day, instead of at Christmas like everyone else.
Also, I can no longer use the old name of my band, as it is still stored online. Does anyone know how to reset that so I can reuse the band name again?

You can't reuse the band name anymore because it's already online. No one can delete it or rename it at this point in time.
As for the memory corruption, I already had it thrice. It's a pain in the arse but for some reason it only happens on the Wii this often. And yes, you can't even back it up on the SD card. :(
This is why I got the Xbox 360, because it's less prone to errors like this. I've never even had it at all on there...my Wii's dead now though. It froze in an online session and won't turn on again. :|

I had this problem 3 times! I downloaded over 50 songs too. I have 3 corrupt memory cards because of Rock Band 2 for the Wii. I even bought an 8 GB mem card from Sandisk and it's not compatible! All my pay and play data on my memory cards have only 1 block and only like 118 blocks left...wtf. I don't know what to do.
