View Full Version : This bass drum pedal will never break

After breaking 2 design flawed pedals, we took the replacement pedal and gave it the diamond plate reinforcement treatment.
One of the band members had some diamond plate lying around, so with a jigsaw, a sander, epoxy, drill, and a few minutes, no more pedal worries.
Zero deflection, rock solid performance.
Another material to consider would be plexiglass.
A few photos.

Better find a way to reinforce that orange plastic part underneath - that's another common place for them to snap.

Better find a way to reinforce that orange plastic part underneath - that's another common place for them to snap.
The reason they snap there is the overall flexing of the pedal itself, which was supposed to provide strength, but doesn't.
This flexing has now been eliminated, and since the orange piece is not physically in contact with anything, and the flex is gone, so is the weakness.
The orange piece has nothing to do with the strength, as it touches nothing on the downstroke, that is left to the rubber bumpers on the nose.
There is no way for the orange piece to break now.

The next place it will break is the pivot point and the bottom.

Have you had one fail in those spots?
I have not seen anyones pedal fail in those areas yet, but this is a big forum.

Mine just went at that point a few minutes ago... thought it would be an easy fix at first but now i'm not so sure...
have any ideas? it literally broke right at the point before it attaches to the metal piece at the heel.

Yes sir I did. About a week after I reinforced the pedal much the way you did. I am not the only one to have it happen but it will, just give it time. :(

I made a whole new pedal out of a piece of 1" Poplar and a piece of Emery cloth glued on top for grip. It is holding up great after a week. I started my next project tonight which is modding a real kick pedal for use with the game so I know it will never fail. V1.0 works pretty well. After playing with it tonight for about 3 hours my leg is much less tiered. I like the feel of a real pedal anyway since I am a drummer.

So how exactly do you connect that pedal to your drums? ;)

Same way I did, 1/4" to 1/8" mono cord. (or any variation of adapters in those sizes)
It still doesn't trigger perfectly, because it's not intended for this use, so keep that in mind....but it IS better than the RB pedal.

Here is my new and improved RB pedal and my prototype real kick pedal conversion.

The conversion works about 99%, I still have to make a few adjustments and solider the wire then it is finished.
