So I was thinking of getting a mic to sing when I jam with my friends. They say my voice is good, but we have no mic.
My question, that hopefully someone will answer, is this: Does any old microphone work for this? And does any amp work for this too? (I mean sound quality)
I have an old epiphone bass amp that I don't play anymore, because I have a 1970 Fender Amp....but could I use the bass amp and plug a mic in, and have it sound good?
Comments would be great. Thanks.

If you're just jamming with friends in a relaxed envrionment, there's no real need to have a mic (though I suppose it could be useful). If you plan on ever recording or playing for an audience, though, it's a necessity.
A quick Google search ended on this page (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_a_good_microphone_for_a_bass_amp), though I can't say anything for it myself. My recommendation would be to drop by a few music stores in town and ask the people who deal with this every day (get a few opinions-- don't just buy the most expensive mic because a store manager pushes it on you :D).
My own knowledge on this topic is pretty limited, so I'm interested to see what you come up with. As of now, I'm still using a Rock Band mic for my recording setup...

Yeah my rock band mic is screwed. A USB mic won't plug in to an amp anyway.
I only want a mic because my friends want to jam to songs, and not just play the blues all the time.
Even though I never get bored of that....
I feel like I haven't seen you here in a while Sgt. Pepper. :D
