View Full Version : Where is Bruce Springsteen?

I've been contemplating this question for a while. The guy's one of the most famous rockers of all time--there's a Sirius satellite channel that plays 24/7 Springsteen!--he's going through something of a resurgence in popularity with his best album in years, and yet not a single song by the Boss has shown up in any rock-oriented music game. And with Steve Van Zandt--one of the main members of the E Street Band--director of the musical selection committee for Rock Band, the absolute lack of the Boss just baffles me even more. So, I ask you, Harmonix...where is Bruce Springsteen?

I must say that if songs by Springsteen do start popping up on PSN, I'd personally want Born to Run, Radio Nowhere, and Candy's Room the most.

I know. You'd think with Little Steven on board, some songs by the Boss would have been a guarantee. Personally, I'd love to see the whole Born to Run album as DLC, but if I had to pick seperate songs, I'd choose Badlands, Born to Run (What a vocal chord workout), and Radio Nowhere from his latest record.

With the exception of the new album, anything released before 1990 would have to either be re-recorded or covered.

Do you really think a Springsteen cover is gonna do him justice?

No, I don't, but why would it all have to be re-recorded or covered? Licensing issues or something?

It's either because anything recorded before 1990 wasn't recorded on a digital format or because it uses a different digital format than what is used today. Can't remember exactly why now.

They can get the master tracks from songs made in the '60s, why can't get they get some from the '80s?

Actually, hmm, that's a good point. The only thing I can think of is that they've been remastered/converted after 1990 for things like greatest hits albums and such.

Please Harmonix! I must agree that Bruce is DESPERATELY needed on Rock Band!

Some songs that would fit (IE: Guitar heavy, vocal, drum pieces, not Piano heavy) would be Badlands (its a bit piano heavy though really...), Born to Run and Radio Nowhere (as previously suggested).

Two songs that would be REALLY REALLY good for Rock Band would be Adam Raised a Cain and Glory Days. Adam Raised a Cain would really be perfect. It's really heavy rock.

Another song to consider would be BRUCE's version of Blinded by the Light. There's even a reference to it (although I assume the it's a reference of the cover) in Rock Band with the "Blinded by the Light" glasses. Better Days would be pretty good too. Murder Incorporated would be good too.

Basically ANYTHING Bruce would be great. Through us a bone here! There 30+ years of amazing material. Surely you can put together three of his songs together for a song pack!

Thanks for letting me rant. I know it's probably dumb to hope for a Bruce song in any music game. But it's a shame. He's a legend.

I have to agree. Born to Run, at the very least, needs to be in Rock Band.

MAKE IT SO!

As much as I love Thunder Road (it's my favorite song ever) it wouldn't be good for Rock Band. Two much piano. Born to Run, Glory Days, An Radio Nowhere (as discussed would be good), 10th Ave. Freeze Out would actually be a really good addition to Rock Band. But the only way Reason to Believe would work would be if it was like Bruce performs it online right now with the "La Grange" intro and all that. His recorded version is basically just him playing acoustic...and looking back at your post, I just realized you added "Live Version" so nevermind ;)

Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuce.

Oh, how I've been waiting for Bruce Springsteen to be available for Rock Band! And you're right; a cover simply cannot convey the sheer awesomeness of his music; it would have to be the original recording.

Personally, I'd like to see the following songs implimented into Rock Band:

Thundercrack
The E Street Shuffle
Kitty's Back
Born To Run
Badlands
Candy's Room
The Promised Land
Jackson Cage
Cadillac Ranch
Ramrod
Born In The U.S.A.
Cover Me
No Surrender
Lucky Town
Radio Nowhere

If nothing else, I would want Thundercrack to be added the most.

Thundercrack and Ramrod would be perfect for Rock Band.

it would make the game so much better, his music is classic.

Pack 1

Radio Nowhere
Born To Run
The Rising

they could do a bunch more too, because he's had such a long good career

That would be an amazing song pack. They should make it four songs though and add Adam Raised a Cain to i too. It would seriously be a perfect Rock Band song. There are SO many great songs that would be perfect though. I'd buy anything they add of his.

Best Bruce songs for Rock Band would have to be: Out on the Streets, Born to Run, Thunder Road, Rosalita, and Glory Days

I would love to play
Born to run

the only problem is that most people who have rock band don't live in New jersey like me. i live a couple of miles from where he lives haha

I can't imagine that that would be a problem. I'm 22 and I live in Seattle and I love Bruce. I think his appeal is universal. His songs are absolutely amazing. I've seen him him front row live several times now and he's probably ruined just about any concert I'll ever go see because he so amazing. If I could only have one more DLC pack in Rockband ever, it'd be Bruce Springsteen. So PLEASE Harmonix, give me the Boss!

This will be my one and only post to this forum. Harmonix, get your head out and post a Springsteen pack. Or else, at least explain why he's not available. His music now appeals across a wide spectrum and would enable us to convince more of our parents to buy the game for us.

My choices:
Radio Nowhere
Born to Run
The Rising

With the amount of niche stuff being called for on these boards daily (myself included), your hopes are far from "dumb".

Bruce Springsteen is certainly in the upper echelon of missing artists from rhythm games and coupled with Steve Van Zandt's Rock Band involvement one has to assume he will show up sooner than later.

And while not a huge fan per se, I would LOVE to play Born to Run and would certainly buy a Boss 3-pack if it came out.

What was Van Zandt's involvement in Rock Band?

It was not trivial to come up with a RB set for Bruce, because so many of his songs are arranged on a piano or are basically acoustic, especially his best songs. Interestingly, the most guitar based songs are off of Born in the USA. This is what I came up with as a DLC for Bruce for Rock Band. What is funny is that not a single one of these songs are a favorite on the respective albums they came from.

Blinded by the Light
Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)
Born To Run
Adam Raised a Cain
Darlington County
Downbound Train
I'm Going Down
One Step Up
Lucky Town

I would SOOOOOOO buy that list. I'd go over to all my friends houses and by that list. That's how bad I want ANY Bruce.

I still think the most fun ones to play would be Adam Raised a Cain (event though its not a personal favorite) and Born to Run. I really think at this point you can't NOT have Born to Run in a Bruce set list.

Let's keep asking for it. Its just unbelieveble that being Bruce what it is and with all that he has done for rock not to have any of his great songs in rock band. Please Harmonix it's just needed!

The Boss Pack:
Born To Run
Born In The USA
Radio Nowhere

^^^^ Id buy tht **** =]

Nice choices, The Boss would be a cool addition to RB! One of my personal favorites is "Dancing in the Dark" but it probably wouldn't fit in right since it doesn't really have anything for the guitar, D'oh!

A Springsteen Pack would still be great, though!

I think that the best Springsteen album to fit in RB is Darkness on the edge of town. The problem might be that it was recorded in 1978 and maybe there is no master track available. But it seems that this year, as it's the 30 year anniversary of the album they're gonna remaster it so RB, its time to put some boss in the DLC!!!

Personally, I think that songs like Adam Raised a Cain, Candys Room, Badlands, Prove it All night, Promised Land would be great!!

How since RB 1 has there not been any BRUCE in RB at all? IS Little Stevie still head of the the DLC picking committee or whatever it was called? This is a travesty.
