Long setlists - Optional?

My girlfriend and I have become hooked on Rock Band and have come across our first of the long (10+ songs) setlists. We have a couple of questions.

1) Is there any way to save part way through? We just can't see ourselves playing for 2+ hours straight.

2) Can you still progress in the game without playing these long setlists?

Aww, 10 songs isn't two hours, thats more like 45 mins.

Fine. How about the 18 song setlist we also have on our list?

Bottom line is that we like to sit down and be able to play a few songs here and there. The 3 - 4 song setlists are great. Being able to commit to a long setlist isn't always an option.

The only way I see is to leave your console on and the game paused.

We are now faced with the "endless setlist" (58 songs), and that is the way we will tackle it.

1) Currently, there is no way to save part way through, aside from just leaving the system on until you can play some more.

2) You can always play through most of the single and short song sets without going into the longer ones, but the big requirement for playing at certain venues (aside from fan caps) is the number of stars you have obtained. There's a finite limit to the number of stars you can obtain (5* each song in each set = ~ a bazillion stars... rough estimate), however, these long set lists are a great way to gain and easy 30-50 stars. Just wait until you take a gander at the Endless Setlist. :) We're going to give it a go sometime after finals.
