Whatever you want to call it: PUT IT IN THE GAME!
I would love to see some Diversity here. Whether it is cultural or Rock Band: the '50's (Rockin' Around the Clock)! With Buddy Holly, Richie Valenz, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc.
Anyways, sorry to go off topic (again). But Sly and the Family Stone would be cool. And there could even be Temptations; Earth, Wind & Fire; the Jackson 5... Just pick the write songs and make it fun. Not everyone here is a teen something emo fanboy*!

*no offense intended to the teen something emo fanboys...:o

Got a fair amount of R&B in my collection, so yeah I'm a fan. But I'm not a devoted fan -- for example, I have no Luther Vandross. Also not into most of the R&B divas, Aretha of course being a huge exception. And when R&B went disco it lost me.

Lots of cases where the boundary line between rock and R&B is blurred -- someone already mentioned Sly, how about Prince? And lots of Rock bands pick up R&B tunes -- Dancing in the Streets for example is one of the most covered tunes in Rock history.

Probably my favorite R&B artist is Stevie Wonder, but I do have a fair amount of Ray Charles as well. One of the albums I cut my teeth on (almost literally) was Ray Charles covering a bunch of country music tunes, "Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music." Some sappy chorus parts, but the arrangements are great and Ray is in top form.

Marvin Gaye is also a favorite. Los Lobos do a killer cover of What's Going On?

I love real R&B

Marvin Gaye, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, Aretha Franklin

I was just thinking of this the other day, and I hate when i go to the store looking for R&B, and in that section they have bluegrass, rap, and hiphop, no old 60s & 70s r&b

I always hated R&B. Then I realized I was listening to new R&B, which is basically terrible singers, repetitive drum beats, and generic lyrics. Classic R&B isn't too bad, really.

Sounds to me you were listening to urban soul/pop.
