Question about singing?

Does anyone knows what happends when you press L2 or R2 while singing, a glowing thing appears near the pitch indicator, but whats the function of this??

It might be the volume

If you're doing quickplay online, holding both of those allows you to talk to whomever you're playing with. I'd use it sparingly though, the lag delay makes it sound pretty awful.
