I was toying around with the idea of trying out a guitar pick with Rock Band since some people had mentioned the pick might actually work better with RB than it has for the old Guitar Hero peripherals. Problem is, I'm not actually a musician so when I mentioned to this to someone, the reply was, "What kind of pick do you want to use?" and I honestly had no idea that there were even different kinds of picks to choose from.

So for you guys out there that HAVE used a pick, or are real musicians, any recommendations on what guitar pick might work with the Fender Strat for Rock Band?

I use a heavier gauge pick. I'm still adjusting to the strum bar on the Fender. I think it's a little too high. I might take my dremel to it and shave it down a bit.

I don't use a pick with the Rock Band guitar, but I do use a 1.15mm nylon pick with my electric guitars and usually something lighter for acoustic. (Nylon last longer)

I would think a Medium or Heavy Fender pick or any plastic pick would work just fine, but I haven't tried it. I would stay away from thin plastic picks. I don't think they would work to well.

I generally grab whatever pick is nearby irregardless of the thickness. For newer players, I would suggest getting picks that have soem sort of grip to it - there are a few out there to choose from. Just go to your closest music store and get a few different brands and thicknesses - everyone will prefer something different.

I'm a guitar player and I did something completely different. I cut the corners off of two cardboard box flaps so I had a double-thick triangle. Then I used duct tape and taped them together. That's what I use for a pick. The duct tape helps keep them from coming apart, and the softness of them keeps from damaging the strum bar. Try it -- you might like it!

I did not like the strat until I started using a pick. Made a huge difference for me-medium gauge.

for the pick it's just whatever you feel most comfortable with, i've always used medium for everything (acoustic, electric, rock band)

Go get some Nylon picks. Have been using them for years. For RB I have been using
1mm (it says it right on the pick), been thinking about trying thicker, just been lazy. Oh also want to try thinner for Creep on Expert;)

I normally play with a medium pick. The strum bar on the Strat is alot better for using a pick. I took my setup to a buddy's house and forgot my pick. So i asked if he had any junk mail with fake plastic credit cards. He did, so I just cut out a pick shape from the card and used that. I was an american express card, and was just the right thickness. Worked great

I would think - and I'm just guessing here - that a thinner pick would be better for playing RB. Personally, I still play the same way I played using the SG and the X-plorer - using my thumb. I'm a guitarist in real life but I just don't see using a pick for these games. I wouldn't use a heavy pick for RB myself, I would think a thin pick would be better with regards to the lifespan of the controller, though a heavy pick would really let you attack the faster notes.

Frankly, I like the pic I picked up on the rail at a Nine Inch Nails concert. After all, with Rock Band it's all about the over the top rocker cred. Who cares about gauge? ;)
