Headset mic problems

Two days ago my Live headset broke, so I was unable to do the vocals in Rock Band. Before it broke it worked perfectly and I was getting 100% across the board in medium.
Today I bought a new headset and tested it out on rock band and right off the bat I was failing songs in medium. I tend to think this is the mic on the new headset that is the problem. It does pick up the voice and I do pass some songs but I now longer even get a 4x multiplier.

When does the official Rock Band Mic go on sale individually?
Is this a game problem or a headset problem?
Does anyone else have this problem?

I dont have my hub (broke in the box) so I use the headset when I have 3 peeps rockin w me, and I noticed it has lag the mic does not have. So I have to start early when singing. It sounds off out of my mouth, but matches up perfectly with the game...odd.

I had the same thing with the lag through the headset. The mic is dead on but I had to start singing early with the headset. Quite a pain in the rump when you are trying to play an instrument and sing at the same time.
