I just got 23/15 stars.

Happened in the Bus or Bust challenge.

On the first run, I 3*ed the first two songs (Miss Murder & Drain You, both sightreads) and 4*ed Living on a Prayer. However, for some reason I let the guitar fail out near the end of LoaP, had no Overdrive to save it, and the time limit for saving (before the whole band fails) coincided with the exact final note. I got a message saying

"Song Failed
Living on a Prayer
100% completed"

After pushing retry, the game resets me to Miss Murder. I thought that was pretty weird, but assumed RBU just made you finish a setlist in one go. this time I got 4*, 4*, 5* and finished the gig with "23/15 stars".

So, the 10 stars I got on my first run that ended with a failure during the final 0% of Living on Prayer got added up to the 13 stars I got on my second try. What bothers me is that it really saved 23/15 stars and it counts towards my total, so I'd eventually have 98/90 stars in LA and so on.

Sorry if this is old news, but it really is quite perplexing.

lol, the 2nd one....sorry I forgot the sarcasm icon at the end of my post. I'm one of the few guys on this forum who, for the most part, tries not to start stuff.

That bothers you? I guess if you had a guilty conscience because you didn't actually get those stars I could see how it would, but I really don't see a way to fix it.

He could delete his game save and start all over again...I wouldn't, but its an option.

Well, it happened after less than an hour of playtime with a totally uncustomized band, so I really did start a new one.
It was actually helpful because I completely remapped the controls and had to re-learn them, so I had to go back to tier 0 anyway. If this happened way later in the game, I'd probably just ignore it.

Similar thing happened to me on my very first set. Failed out past the end of the song (even said 101% completed lol), retried, got 3 stars but result screen said 6/5 stars.
Way to go QA team!

I once got 101% on The Middle...and still managed to fail the song :D
