except for the fact they're doing decent this year.

That may be, but they've been the number one seed in the Eastern Conference and gotten bounced out in the first round before. Usually by the Canadiens.

I remember them being up 3 games to 1 on the Canadiens during the 2004 playoffs. I left for Europe with my high school on for a trip during that spring vacation time. I came back 10 days later to find that they lost the series. Partly due to a Joe Thornton injury which people say lost them the series.

Getting that news and then the next season was the owner lockout put a huge dent into my love for hockey.

Just to carelessly throw this out there...

Rewind a few years ago, and there was lots of talk about the Yankees just buying World Series titles, and blah blah blah, and the Boston fans I know did a good share of the complaining.

Then, the Boston teams start throwing the money around (KG the highest paid in the NBA, Celtics are in top 5 payrolls, I think; Pats have 2nd highest payroll in the NFL; Red Sox have one of the top in the MLB), and they seem to escape the criticism. I know the NBA and NFL have salary caps (or at least I think they both do), but the top teams still have payrolls that are nearly double the bottom teams.

I don't watch NBA basketball, so I don't really care about that. I'm a Panthers fan for football (though I kind of like the Giants, except I liked Tiki, and don't like Eli, so there's not much to cheer for these days), but I'm not the biggest NFL fan. Baseball is the only sport I actually really get into, so if Boston lands Santana, then I might cry.

^ c'mon toefer, let them have their fun.Boston fans have paid their dues and they deserve this nice little stretch of sports goodness. They will find out, as 49er fans, Yankees fans, Cowboys fans, Lakers fans, Bulls fans, and Celtics fans found out, that it won't last forever, look down your nose while you can because every team falls back down to Earth eventually. I'm happy for Boston right now, but damn are they annoying...:D

Little known fact: The Astros have a curse, too. It is called the Curse of the Colt .45. Astros used to be called the Colt .45's and were in partnership with Smith and Wessen. The owner ditched the name eventually to go a different direction. The head of S&W then vowed that the Astros will never win a championship as long as they are not called the Colt .45's.

A few things wrong with this argument:

The Red Sox payroll is the 2nd highest in baseball but it doesn't come close to the Yankees. The problem is they are in the same division so in order to compete they have to spend. Players and their agents know that if they are in negotiations with the Red Sox they can bump get a little more by threatening to negotiate with the Yankees. I'm sure if they were in another division they would be able to get by with a smaller payroll. They have also made some painful decisions and let highly popular players like Johnny Damon and Pedro Martinez go to NY over a few million dollars or an extra year on a deal. Its not like they don't use any discretion at all.

The Patriots have a long history of being under the cap and refusing to sign high priced talent focusing on team first guys. This year they made a few moves to get Brady some better receiving talent and it has paid off in spades, but a huge factor of their continuous success this decade has been their excellent management of the salary cap.

The Celtics didn't make KG the highest paid player in the NBA, they only traded for him.

I want the Patriots to go 19-0 this year so we don't have to hear about Don Shula and the rest of the 1972 Dolphins - especially that smug ***hole Mercury Morris - bragging about being the only undefeated NFL team and popping open the champagne.

I want the Celtics to win the NBA title this year because, as a Minnesotan, I would love to see KG get a ring after twelve years of increasingly undeserved loyalty to a franchise that, if not for Isiah Thomas and the Knicks, would be the laughing stock of the league when it came to asinine personnel decisions.

I loved the Red Sox when they beat the Yankees in 2004, but other than that, I don't much care one way or the other. Unless they trade for Santana - then I will be a casual fan. Unless they get the Twins to adopt the patented Minnesota sports franchise "bend over and grab your ankles" negotiation strategy - then I will hate them more than I hate the Yankees.

Not really a hockey fan, but go Brewers!

Great points King Nuthin.

Sox: Who did the best for them? Beckett, Pedroia, Youkilis, all guys that don't even make near superstar level.

Patriots: Definitely not high spenders, they just needed Moss to give Brady some good receiving.

Celtics: FAR from high rollers. They traded away half their roster to bring in Garnett, they didn't just go out and buy him, that's a stupid argument.

Let us enjoy what we have. It never lasts, so before you know it, some other town will have winning teams as well. Our teams make more money because Boston is a hugely dedicated sports town. Our fans are extremely passionate for our teams, and we deserve what we get.

Other people will have their turn don't worry.

The Celtics and Patriots are working under the same salary constraints as every other team in their respective leagues. So they aren't just spending money for the sake of it like the Red Sox where there is no salary cap and you can spend all the money you want if you are content in paying the luxury tax.

I would also like to point this out. The Patriots own the rights to the San Francisco 49'ers first round pick in the 2008 draft. Which is looking to be a top 5 pick. Now they will in all likelihood trade that pick to fall back into the middle of the first round and pick up some more draft picks.

They don't like paying people a lot of money which is what they would have to do if they drafted a rookie that high. Look what they did with Samuel. They don't want to pay him like they did with Seymour and Brady, but they might have to after this year because they might switch the franchise tag over to Moss to work out a multi-year deal with him.

And to TopperHarley (awesome reference by the way) I agree I want the Patriots to go undefeated most of all to shut up Mercury Morris. I hate him with a passion.

First off I'm from Boston and I thought that song was hiliarious but the Bruins are not having a bad year they are tied for the second most wins in the Eastern Conference. Also all of us Boston fans deserve to have these championships we never won a super bowl before Brady the Red Sox were cursed from 1918 until they finally won it in '04. Just wait you know the Bruins are gonna end up winning it all :D
