at one point this was #1 but not anymore

but its my best attempt at the metallica song.

oh and the kick pedal is my custom one. its a pacific (cheap) double bass pedal with a radio shack button underneath in a piece of wood.. the double kick is for timing purposes. only the right pedal triggers the kick in the game

A couple of things...

First, I see you took the advice of your adoring fans (i.e. shirt on). Compliments to the wardrobe dept. :P Nice performance too. Have you gotten a replacement for your original break yet?

Second, dude seriously, that's a nice ass kick pedal setup. You have some wildly creative ideas.

Third, you should send the TV signal to your computer and do a picture-in-picture of the actual screen. Hard to see your TV sometimes and all the flashing.... *seizure*.

Finally, I don't understand what you mean by double kick, I see only one pedal... barely.... and what are those black things in the lower right?

1) yea it was my work shirt so i left it on. and i think i had just started playing so i wasnt hot enough to take the shirt off yet

2) thank you. i got the idea from the guy that did the video that i linked to in my description. he posts here as deepblue something i dunno

3) i was considering doing this as i have an older usb capture device. but i havent gotten to set it up yet. i didnt really put much time or effort into the recording

4) its a double kick pedal. i couldnt get the tv and a good view of the pedals in 1 shot with where the drums are. .. .the other things are other kick pedals, but from real electronic kits. i borrowed them from a friend to see if they would work.

thanks

I bet if you placed a Piezo Switch (much like the drum pads have) behind the pad of the bass drum; you could get registers for any hit you make on it, so you could use both pedals on that thing.
That way you don't have to worry about the radio shack switch breaking under pressure of the 1 pedal.

As for the recording you should record the stream of your TV out to your PC and the one of your camera on you, and just sync it and edit it so you can crop it and do a split view in the edited version.

i think the only way i can capture the video/audio out is to use the RCA output of the ps3 (would have to disable the current hdmi) and plug that into a usb capture device that i have laying around. my plasma doesnt have any outputs i believe

i did start capturing audio out via headphone jack of tv but that was after the video

if i do more videos i will do this

as far as the piezo switch, thats not a bad idea. but i worry about miss/double hits erroneously triggering

I wouldn't worry too much about the missed hits as I would with the double hits, so I can see that being a problem for some.
But it would help ALOT even just using a single pedal because alot of the double hit parts in game are from the snapback in kicking it hard on a real drum set.
I did notice this myself after a drummer friend of mine pointed out the difference on his drum kit.
I love your bass pedal mod though. =]

Thanks for putting on a shirt this time. :) And very good work, that was impressive. I was surprised that wasn't a 5 star though. Pretty crazy.

MegaGoo,

Is that bass drum set up different than the "spring" set up I have seen in a previous thread? In other words, is the beater actually doing something, or is it just there for realism?
I searched around for the mod you have in the video, but did not see it.

Thanks!

Well 1st Of All Nice Work. As A Drummer I Can Tell Your A Real Drummer And Probally A Double Bass Monster On A Real Kit. Your Short, fast Hand Strokes And Quick Feet Are The Signs. You Remind Me Of ''derek Roddy'' He's A Real Fast Player. Look Him Up. Anyways I Really Need To Get Some Kind Of Double Pedal Mod For My Set. I Play Double Bass In Real Life And I Feel Naked Without One.

hey. i saw your spring set up and that is a great idea. i may try that at some point if i need to. i was searching for a good way to make contact at a precise moment (when my beater hits the pad) and i had already bought some buttons and didnt have a better idea at the time. cutting the wood and drilling the hole and lining up the button was a ***** but in the end it worked

the beater is not doing anything because there is a tension spring on the kick pedal. im sure the beater does do a little something with the bounce back and pendulum type action, but the button is mounted in wood underneath the pedal just like the video i linked to in the information section of my vid

yo. i can't say that i'd call myself a drummer. i've said before that i could probably get through a gig if i really practiced but i wouldnt be confident and would screw up. i dont have a drum set but i am in a band (guitarist) and fck around on the drummers set every now and then. my other band use to practice at my house and the drummer would keep his set there. that 8 or so month period was when i learned the most obviously because i would screw around on it a lot

Ah. I should have read your Youtube description closer...you are using the "button" mod. Got it. Perhaps I will build one of those.
Just to clarify, I did not create the "spring" mod. I was just referencing it in my last post.
Thanks for the info!

Well played...I have a lot of work to do on the drums...

that was awesome... i don't think i've passed blackened on expert for drums... if i have it was with my buddy on guitar and he saved me three times...

about your comment on the video that it's kinda cheating, i don't think it is at all...
i play real drums, and i can't even to the double kick hits... either my pedal sucks, i suck and don't want to admit it, or harmonix didn't make a good design for the pedal.

buy no matter which of the three it is...
i've been wanting to do what someone mentioned about making another pad like the drum pads and then using my double pedal on it... pretty much how real electronic drumsets work... but i'm not technologically smart... like with all those wires and crap.

can anyone post a kind of step-by-step way that you could make something like that?
plz and thank you.
