View Full Version : Drum Conundrum (a.k.a. how my drums are broken in two different ways)

I need to decide if i should try to fix my drumset myself or send it in for warranty. Here's the issue:

Recently my yellow pad cracked down the middle. Instead of messing with a replacement, I just popped it off and put a crapload of tape on it so it would hold together and not come totally apart. I'm worried this may have voided the warranty.

The second problem is today my blue drum went kaput. Doesn't work at all. I popped it off and can see that the "nub" part where the sensors come together must have been hitting the plug where the wire goes into the little circuit board inside the drum. The plug is almost broken completely off.

This is the conundrum: I have all kinds of electronic experience and I know I could just solder the wires directly into the board bypassing the broken plug, but it would totally destroy any hope of warranty help in the future. Second option is to gamble and try to peel all the tape I put on inside the yellow drum off, send it in, and hope no one looks too closely and hope my warranty goes through?

Option a: working drums right away, but no warranty in the future.
Option b: a nice new drumset with warranty, but a chance of being charged $125 for it.

Thoughts?

Go ahead and get them replaced, man. No reason to be trying to fix them yourself when they're still under warranty.

You won't get charged $125 unless you don't return your broken set, assuming you use the Express RMA option. It's not a $125 charge. It's a $125 hold that they release as soon as they receive your broken set.

Ditto, especially since you have a broken pad. EAxViolet made a post about taped bass pedals being accepted for warranty, since it's obviously not what caused the problem. I would assume this will likely hold true for the pads as well. You may want to call EA service and ask them, or send a PM to EAxViolet to be sure.

Thanks for the ideas. I pm'd EAxViolet and I'll let you guys know what she has to say. For future reference and all.
