View Full Version : Dear HMX, any intention to rework the pedal design?

I'm at a loss about how to handle the kick pedal. My first one lasted 2 weeks and then snapped when I got up to the last tier of expert. The replacement arrived today and I probably spent about 2 hours finishing up expert and replaying some songs when it snapped again. To the best of my knowledge, I'm not being abusive with the equipment. I'm not stomping wildly, I'm wearing socks, and most of the time my heel stays down. Nevertheless, this is the second pedal I've had which has cracked at the pivot point. While I don't mind the inconvenience of ordering a warranty replacement, there has to be some better way to handle this. I've seen the diamond aluminum support plates people are selling, but should I really need to use additional hardware to protect against equipment failure? I'm just wondering if someone from HMX could offer insight as to whether or not you're even researching alternative designs for the kick pedal at the moment, or if you're married to the current design. In the meantime, I guess I'll order my 3rd. Thanks.

P.S. The $125 credit hold on an express pedal replacement is a bit excessive. I can see the point with a guitar or an entire drumset... People might just absorb a lower cost to add a second instrument to the mix. But for just a pedal? $125?

Don't even do the express shipping with the pedal. I didn't, and in a couple days after doing normal ordering I got a new pedal in a box. Maybe I just lucky, maybe not.

I believe the newer pedals are better reinforced and should not break as easily.

Newer since when? Mine arrived yesterday and was no stronger than the first.

Sorry, it appears I may have been mistaken. As an engineer myself, I can guarantee that with the volume of pedals being returned they are working on a fix right now so they no longer have to pay for returned equipment.

if you call, you do not need to send your broken pedal back to them in most cases.

Yeah, my 2nd pedal broke too. I'm little & weak and definitely not stomping the heck out of my pedal, but the 2nd still managed to crack. I dunno. My 2nd was exactly the same as my first, like the tension of the spring was still high. I hope the 3rd doesn't break... people say "oh, reinforce it yourself" but honestly.. I paid $170 for a game.. I expect that it will withstand normal play for longer than a week without me having to do a homemade fix. I shouldn't HAVE to reinforce it with metal for it to work.

my first broke right where the heel connects to the metal rod at the bottom, first time i played through and jstice for all (hard).

in order to play now, i have to hold the heel in with the toes on my left foot, and use my right foot like normal to play it...
