View Full Version : Why do people "hate" Led Zeppelin?

I think they're good musically, their singer is really great. But it's just one of those bands that people go to when they really like something that they think won't be accepted by their peers or if they just haven't really found something that they actually like. A lot of people who have iPods and just load up songs from every band that might be popular with at least 5 people in the general vicinity have Zepplin, so if you say that you like them when you might not or really haven't found something that you REALLY like, no one is going to ask questions.

In my opinion, I think a good number of people (although I don't seem to find any of these people...) don't like Led Zepplin just because the sound is somewhat of an aquired taste. For instance, if you don't like the singer's voice, the way he sings in one song, in Zepplin's case, you probably won't like the rest of their songs. Don't get me wrong, the singer's voice is down-right legendary and amazing in my opinion, but needless to say some people still don't care for that taste.

Both were very influential. Zep came a bit before sabbath and was alot more well known and popular so they probably reached out to more people influence wise. Also both had some dark sounding songs that were not popularized or heard in mainstream before them. The whole stereotypical satanic metal thing also started with both of them along with the stones.

Sabbath were a lot darker than Zepp though. Zepp's contribution to metal lyrically would be along the lines of the fantastical rather than the satanic. Vikings, plunder, that sort of thing.

Accusations of Satanism may have followed them, but I uphold their mystical symbols, etc fall more into the realm of fantasy. I mean, obviously you'd have to ask someone who made a metal band under teir influence, but I certainly see a thread of their falling into the likes of Trad Heavy and Power metal, but not Doom, Thrash or Black.

Use correct grammar.
As for Eddie's guitar work influencing a generation, not particularly, I don't really see it impacting massively on anything other than '80s glam and sleaze. Sure, it influenced people, but the sound of Van Halen is undiscernable in Trad. Heavy, Thrash, Death, etc.

It's not incorrect grammar, it's a typo, go back to school. Dave Mustaine found his first bassist because he was doing Van Halen work, so I think it does come into play. Not just that, but even death metal bands talk about how good they were, they may not sound like them but they take his guitar work very seriously.
Also, learn to spell:

Actually the grammar is awful. 'Could care less' is a fallacy if what you mean is that you couldn't care less.
And I'm sure plenty of people think that Eddie's playing was good, but unless it musically influenced them, not that useful in your argument. So Mustaine liked him, great? I don't hear Van Halen in the likes of KK Downing and Glenn Tipton, or Dave Murray and Adrian Smith.

When speaking in a conversation it's okay to take things in a metaphorical sense. Ex: I could care less. If I was writing a story and a character used that phrase it would be acceptable because he is using it in a not literal form.
Why would you hear KK Downing in the like with Eddie Van Halen. Not only did they start at different times, but they almost knew nothing of each other until Van Halen played with Black Sabbath and blew them away. We're using metal artists after Eddie Van Halen came into view. That's like me asking Jimmy Page, "How has Eddie Van Halen influenced you?"

That had nothing to do with Eddie. He was playing the bassline to Runnin' with the Devil, not the guitar-part. And, either way, Dave didn't even like it when he played the bassline (he was so hungover, that it was giving him the worst headache ever). That may have been how they met, but not why Dave chose Dave as his bassist.

Actually I never heard anyone at my school ever bring Kirk Hammet when talking about influence.
People at your school play guitar? And, better yet, they don't assrape Metallica?! That's it; I'm moving to your school.
DuDE! dId YoY HERE THAT SOLO IN CRAZY TRAIN! BEST WYLDE SOLO EVER.
Yes, people have told me Wylde did the solo for Crazy Train. Thank you Guitar Hero.
I've had people tell me that Zakk imporved Randy's and Jake's solos with his "awesome squeals".
cobain is the biggest influence

They liked all Metal bands. So there was never any real hate towards one band or another. Metal was their inspiration.
Zakk improved the solo? That makes me want to punch someone in the face. Rargh! *punch*

Well, I like him. I got this bootleg of him doing this amazing solo, he even put in the theme song from the Munster in the solo. It was great. :D

I can't stand it, all the time. It comes to a point where I don't want to hang out with them because I'll be listening to this music, not out of love, but because I have to. I hate that kind of music. How dare they call it indie, indie is a umbrella term for bands not signed, not bands that sound the same.

Mainstream Radio Listeners
Scene Kids
"Classic" Rock Fans
Normal Rock Listeners(They are a mix between mainstream radio listeners and classic rock fans).
Hip Hop Wannabes
Rushians(Very small group that consists of my friends that really dig Rush, yeah it's a poor joke).
