I voted Kill 'Em All (despite the misplaced apostrophe in the poll), but any of the first three could hold that title for me on any given day. All three of those albums are incredible.

Ride the Lightning, by far. Some of Burton's best work, I think.

Ride The Lightning is my number one but sometimes it's KEA and sometimes MoP, depends on the day. Also, most Metallica fans don't say the black album is their favorite but it is however the most accessible.

I've never understood how RtL could ever be considered better than MoP... Yeah, we all know that the front half of RtL is incredible, but the back half tapers off dramatically with Trapped Under Ice and Escape. MoP is great at the front end, and the back four songs are the best Metallica ever put back-to-back-to-back-to-back, IMHO.

And Justice for All is the best Metallica album because it's too complicated to be a Metallica album.

i agree that MoP is much more solid and i also agree with those two RtL songs being weak, but i also feel that the rest of the album is basically top of the line metallica.
MoP only has one song i'd call flat-out weak (disposable), but i don't think it has quite as many completely awesome songs as RtL.
this is why i go back and forth so much on which of the two albums i prefer. they both have their pros and cons.

Boy, Disposable Heroes is weak? Can't say I agree with that. IMHO, Battery and the title track are the weakest from the album, and then the others are all top notch, with Leper Messiah being IMHO Metallica's best Cliff-era work.

I almost voted for St. Anger. Almost. I ended up voting for Kill 'Em All, because it's a great (read: bad) album by Metallica's standards (read: terrible). There is only one bad (read: horrendous) song on the album (The Four Horsemen).

Two things.
1: How would a cover of one of the more uninteresting songs on the album ruin the entire album for you?
2: How is that ruin-worthy? I mean, it sounds pretty much like Metallica's (senseless deep, growly screaming, whee).

My vote goes to ...And Justicr For All. Their best album IMO. To me, its one of those albums where you listen through every song without changing to the next song. Also, To Live Is To Die is Metallica's best instrumental IMO. But, the best song on the album is One.

It goes like this for me:
Ride The Lightning
...And Justice For All
Kill 'Em All
Master Of Puppets
St. Anger
Garage Inc.

Metallica
Death Magnetic
Load and ReLoad are tied.

I voted Ride the Lightning, but I would say it's a tie between that and Kill 'Em All.
Kill 'Em All is Metallica at their trash peak. Every song on that album is just brutal. However, Ride the Lightning is Metallica at their songwriting best. The musical arrangement is amazing, and the production sound gives it a sort of this echoey, doomy feel too it. I love them both.

Nothing on Kill 'Em All, or any other Metallica album, is brutal. That's like calling a Sex Pistols song a ballad or calling a Meshuggah song melodic.
